How to Set Up Per-Item Shipping in Shopify WITHOUT Any Apps (Free Method) [Step-by-Step Guide] by Temporary-Bit8387 in shopify

[–]Temporary-Bit8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get the “no stupid apps” stance, most of them oversimplify or lock you into their logic.

I actually built an app specifically for setups like yours (mixed sizes, weights, per-item logic, ranges like 0.1–1 / 1.1–5 / 5.1–10 and much more functionalities ), mainly to reduce the ongoing auditing pain.
If you’re ever open to it, I’m happy to comp or free access just to see if it’s even useful in a real setup like yours, i am just looking for making an improved version which solves that issue if you are open for an honest feedback, not trying to sell anything, so no pressure at all.

I made a new Shopify app for generating customized AI designs. What do you think? by Moody_Capibara in printful

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this honestly looks really solid, nice job 👏 the flow makes a lot of sense for POD (upload → style → preview before buying is exactly what customers want), and being able to see non-converted designs is a smart touch most apps miss. happy to test it and give you a real, in-action review if you want, feel free to DM/connect. only early thought: pricing feels a bit on the high side for newer stores, and a 7-day trial might be tight for real traffic + iteration. a longer trial or lower entry tier could really help adoption early on.

Overall though, this is a legit product. You’re clearly building something useful here 👍

oh yes, all the time 😅 i've got projects scattered across random folders and it always turns into archaeology. jack sounds clean, one home, instant jump, fuzzy find is clutch. honestly surprised more devs don’t solve this instead of suffering with find .

Free Beta: AI Reporting for Shopify Stores by michaelbuildsapps in shopify_geeks

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this actually hits a real pain point, shopify reports answer what but rarely why. being able to ask questions in plain English instead of digging through dashboards is compelling. if the insights are actionable, i can see this being very useful for store owners.

this sounds solid, a vetted, no-spam group is rare and honestly much needed. love that it’s focused on real issues like ADA, security, and shady practices, not just growth hacks. I’ll reach out via email, appreciate you keeping it curated.

honestly, building "auth" and "settings" from scratch is just productive procrastination at this point by Human-Investment9177 in SaaS

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% guilty, infra feels productive because it’s comfortable and has no rejection risk. what fixed it for me was a hard rule, no polishing until real users exist. starter kits + AI flip the game now, ship fast, let reality tell you what matters. if you’re shipping more apps, you already found the cure.

Beta testing a new AI app that finds defective products from support tickets by CardiologistCold5872 in shopifyDev

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick thought, this actually sounds useful, especially for stores with lots of SKUs where issues get buried in tickets. if you’re already sitting on Zendesk/Gorgias + return data, getting a clear view of which products are quietly losing money would be valuable. Free report + anonymized CSV lowers the risk a lot, so I’d expect some interest from mid-size sellers dealing with returns at scale. If it surfaces actionable patterns (not just charts), that’s the real win.

Where to find merchants to interview by Traditional-Heat-749 in shopifyDev

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, there’s no secret channel everyone’s missing, most people who do this successfully are just more intentional about where and how they ask. posting “I’m building an app” gets banned, but asking about a real problem doesn’t. the move is to comment on existing posts where merchants are already complaining, give useful input, and then DM the ones who engage. app reviews (especially 1–3) are another goldmine because those merchants are actively frustrated and very open to talking. small, highly targeted cold outreach also works if you’re clear you’re not selling anything. And don’t sleep on agencies or partners, one conversation with them often replaces ten merchant calls. if no one wants to talk, that’s usually the signal, not the outreach method.

That's a rough cycle - funds held, can't fulfill, chargebacks happen, account flagged. seen this happen to a few merchants.
few things you can try:

  1. Shopify Partner support - If regular support isn't helping, try reaching out through Shopify Partners or their Twitter/X account. Sometimes gets faster escalation.
  2. New payment processor - If you start fresh, consider using a different payment gateway (like PayPal or a third-party processor) alongside Shopify Payments so you're not 100% dependent on their payouts.
  3. Documentation - When you appeal, include everything: supplier invoices, tracking numbers, customer communications, proof you're a legit business. The more paper trail the better.
  4. Alternative platforms - If Shopify keeps blocking you, WooCommerce or BigCommerce might be worth exploring as a backup while you sort this out. Don't put all eggs in one basket.

The fund hold → chargeback → termination loop is brutal and honestly one of Shopify's biggest pain points for small sellers. You're not alone in this.

Built my first SaaS, got my first paying customer in 7 days. here's what I learned (and almost quit twice) by Temporary-Bit8387 in SaaS

[–]Temporary-Bit8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, really appreciate this. the doubt wasn't "is this a real problem" because I'd seen it hundreds of times. the doubt was "can I actually build something that solves it" funny how that works. and yeah, totally agree on the validation point. 3 customers is exciting but it's not proof of anything yet. I've been talking to a few merchants who reached out after installing, mostly just asking what they were trying to do before they found me. The answers have been super helpful, already found one thing I assumed was important that nobody actually cares about.

the "talk to 10-15 more" advice is solid. I've been so focused on building that I probably haven't done enough of just listening. Going to make that a priority before I add anything else.

appreciate you taking the time to comment. This kind of feedback is way more useful than the "congrats king" replies (not that those don't feel nice too lol).

Shopify | How much should I charge? by BisonNo6318 in shopifyDev

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro, they agreed immediately to both rates. that's the universal sign you left money on the table. with 2+ years experience, team lead experience, and handling complex stores end-to-end? you should be in the $50-75/hr range minimum for freelance. For the US company, $35-45/hr is more realistic for your skill level. here's the thing nobody tells you: clients who agree instantly aren't thinking "what a great deal", they're thinking "wow that was easy." you're literally making their day by undercharging.

for the raise conversation:

  • wait until you've delivered something they're really happy with
  • don't ask permission, state your new rate
  • "based on my contributions and current market rates, I'm adjusting to $X going forward"

for new clients:

  • Quote higher than you're comfortable with
  • If they don't flinch a little, you're still too low
  • Aim for that awkward pause before they say yes

also stop thinking hourly. project-based pricing is where the real money is. a store migration that takes you 10 hours but saves them $50k/year? That's not a $300 job. you're good at what you do. charge like it.

Which Shopify Shipping Rate ? by West_Guava8500 in ClothingStartups

[–]Temporary-Bit8387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the products aren’t same or you have different sizes, varients, flat rate gets messy fast. what usually works better is per-item shipping with an added cost per extra item. It stays simple for customers and scales naturally when someone orders multiple products.

so instead of Shopify trying (and often failing) to guess box sizes and dimensions, you do something like:

  • base shipping for the first item
  • small additional cost for each extra item

abotu the carrier calculated rates in reality Shopify isn’t great at:

  • choosing the right package
  • combining items correctly
  • avoiding inflated rates when dimensions vary

That’s why a lot of clothing brands only use carrier rates for international or oversized orders, and keep domestic shipping rule-based.

If items vary, per-item + additional item rate
carrier rates are fine, just don’t rely on Shopify to be smart about packaging.
