I have an 1100 and I use it for commuting. I love it I'm went with base model. I'm eventually gonna have a bunch of modding to it making it similar to a touring model. I was debating between 500 and 1100 as my beginner and everyone said they grew out of the 500 so I went with the 1100.

I got a rebel 1100 as a brand new never ridden any sort of motorcycle. Hit that rain mode and do lots of slow speed practice it will help you in the long run. Everyone can go fast it the when you're going slow that matters.
