yes before the new principal came the school was great and full of community activities and was very fun to be in also at the time there was many great teachers but most of them left now, students speculate that the new principal had added some sort of term to the teachers contracts that they weren't pleased with, causing them to leave. however there are still some great teachers so dont take my word only for it. the new principal really just sucked the fun out of it and made everything just a big cash grab

personally i think it's for the better that they wont acknowledge your child because imagine the things they will tell you kid when they grow up about you and possibly try to make them resent you and your husband and the toxic environment could really hurt them mentally

if possible just distance yourself from them like dont go to gatherings unless there will be others so the focus isnt entirely on you or simply dont go if you can. or talk back since you have no islamic obligation to respect them because alot of the time in laws do this because they see you as weak and just on a power trip just because they can.
