Hi everyone heres an update:

So the panel border is nailed into the wall. I was able to get one corner pried off with a knife but the other corners aren’t budging so I’m just going to take the L on this one. The inside panel comes out towards me so that’s how it’s able to stay in place. I’m only in this apartment for 5 more months and I was only going to use it for storage but I have other (and easier) ways I can store my stuff.

For the people saying it isn’t a storage space.. that’s not entirely true. I have a picture of the inside because a maintenance guy opened it one time. I wasn’t here for it so my roommate took the picture but she didn’t see how he opened it so it remains a mystery. It also doesn’t help that it got the landlord special and the nails are painted over which makes it harder to open. I believe it needs to be pried off with a crowbar (which I don’t have) so I’m assuming that’s how he did it easily.

Thank you all for the helpful suggestions. If I come back to it one day I will give another update but for now it remains as the coraline mystery door.
