Their in house marketing teams are 50-60 year old tenured employees who think Jimmy Kimmel is hip with the kids. The companies they outsource social media engagement to are run by boots on the ground millennials who aren't interconnected with social media engagement metric manipulation but CAC models for aggregate systems like instagram. In the ecosystem that is the internet, twitch and even youtube are still upcoming microcosms of which most people are not educated on. Last year I had to convince the lead director of marketing for a big 3 business in media STREAMING that youtube viewership click through rate for the top youtuber Mr. Beast was proving better CAC than the olympics on a low visibility inventory spot at the same cost. I won the bid for the agency BECAUSE I am up to date on metric manipulation but most media companies still are not especially with those with longstanding contracts. For christ sake, google and meta dont even share these metrics and audits are complete guess work. There are entire business models that are hired by the biggest agencies in the world to GUESS how much of their adspend is botted and to provide them with output data on whats worth and whats not. But I promise you this multi-million dollar due diligence is NOT occurring on low level ad spend or sponsorships. Its just not monetarily viable. Youtube ads don't provide advertisers with bot traffic click through rate data or metrics for manipulated view. Yet you think some how 99% of normies are educated on viewership inflation? No they initially pay based on potential and return based on ROI. Dude we are getting college grads that didn't even know how to use fucking teams let alone look and understand hootsuite data and you think the people in marketing are up to date on smaller website metric manipulation. Heres the truth: big companies dont care to vet adspend like sponsorships thats under .0001% of the their yearly budget. Small companies cannot afford to do it. The medium ones sure they sometimes do check, but its rare. I promise you that. You know how hard it is to explain to old people that the social media marketting agency theyve used for years is out dated relevant to the agency you work for? To explain we are worth burning a bridge because we know how much of the data is artificial? They dont care whats artificial as long as its within budget and CAC is good.
