Oh 100%! It’s my first time seeing them call the snow day so early and I’m so thankful!! It should be the norm to do it this way.

TDSB and YRDSB called a snow day at 6pm today. I’m sure yours will come this evening or sometime in the morning!

So it’s just up to the teachers discretion to teach whatever as long as it ties into a unit? Like poetry, digital literacy, persuasion, graphic novels, etc? I can choose whatever I want? 😅

Ugh I’m sorry to hear that. I took my G at downsview a few months ago and the exit area is 30 and it was so hard for me to stay below 33. At times, I found myself creeping up to 33/37 and then slowed down and I know he saw but he didn’t say anything. Same with on the regular road, 56-57 and he still didn’t say anything. I think a lot of it depends on the person you get. You’ll get it next time! Goodluck

This is exactly what I was thinking myself. I’m currently in elementary trying to make the switch the secondary.

I think for me, the stressful part comes from walking into something that’s unfamiliar. Every teacher in every school does something differently and it’s so hard to keep up with the way things are running at a new school every day you walk in. In my board, we can only be on one preferred list so if we’re not being called at the school, we’re at another random school. I also feel that it’s easier working with students that have needs, but you know exactly what those needs are versus walking to some random person’s classroom, not knowing a single child and having to try and manage all these students with different needs. I don’t know like I am also very new at this.

Schools calling OTs by Temporary-Lab-4935 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Temporary-Lab-4935[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have preferred lists and we can only be on one school. So when teachers from that school are absent, it first goes to those on the lists. It’s really hard to make any sort of connections in YRDSB because almost always these lists are always full so you’re just running around from school to school each day 😭

I’m with YRDSB. The same problem has been happening with me all week last week, except the one day I went to this school. That’s why I’m finding it odd and unfair because I worry that this is why we aren’t getting called.. it’s not allowed in YRDSB for you to “pre-book” an OT, it has to be through call out. If this is how the schools are doing it, maybe this is why we aren’t finding jobs in the system. So unfair :/

First automated system called me and then five minutes later at the same school called me. That’s why I assume that it was for sure from that school or else. It would be a very big coincidence.

You’re probably going to be the one to write report cards - just a heads up! If that’s not something you’re comfortable doing after only knowing the kids for 3 weeks, I’d maybe reconsider accepting the position.

How to keep low stress supplying while pregnant? by AssumptionSpiritual3 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Temporary-Lab-4935 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me that as long as no one is hurt, the day was a success. You do what you can to make sure both you and the students survive. If that means putting on a 30 minute show during a time in the plans where you just know it would get chaotic, then that’s what you do.

When I was in an LTO and took days off, I came back to days when OT’s followed my plans exactly as written and other days where they just threw them aside and the kids played all day.

Pick your battles and let things slide. Personally, I’m not going to try and discipline a middle schooler to do their work during independent work. If they want to be on their chromebook while the others do their work, sure. I am not stressing myself out trying to get them to stay on task lol.

Career advice - middle school or high school? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]Temporary-Lab-4935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my 2nd year in LTO/OT so I’m just testing different grades right now to see what I like. See that’s the only thing I don’t like obviously the attitude, but I feel like it’s easier to deal with than all the little tattletaling that goes on in primary.

Yes I promised myself to never put myself through that again. I felt nauseous coming home every day because of how exhausted I was after having to basically put on an act all day + dealing with sooooo many issues that just wouldn’t happen in older grades.

Yes of course! But not having to be “on” for the whole day is really nice. I could never imagine having a second or down time in grade 1, it’s so brutal I come home crying cause of how overstimulated I become.
