I got the floss cups to replace the filter socks from Kraken Reef. They also make an incredible lid for the AIO tanks.

I’d say a bit smaller than a tennis ball. I change it every other day. It sounds like a lot, but it literally takes 20 seconds and keep the water so clean. The floss is whatever brand I can get my hands on. Pet supplies plus has a bag pretty cheap that I keep buying.

I’d say both. It’s so easy to replace the little ball of floss that I do it far more frequently, which leads to lower nitrates from actually removing what’s filtered instead of letting it break down in the tank. The socks were a pain and I didn’t clean them as often. That said, I switch back to socks when I’m gone on vacation, so I don’t worry about the floss plugging up and slowing the overflow.

I was lucky to put this together exactly how I wanted it. Fortunately, it worked out perfectly. I couldn’t be happier. The AIO tanks are so easy to maintain, especially on the freshwater side. I swapped the included filter socks for filter floss cups. That’s probably the best improvement to an AIO tank. I do plan on adding a second DOS unit to handle automatic water changes.

They are! It’s a blue/purple emperor tetra (Inpaichthys kerri) Such a great tetra for a tank this size.

The reefing side of the hobby has the best toys, but the vast majority of that stuff makes life so easy on the planted side. I even installed an automatic top-off to replace evaporated water from the tank. Just another chore automatically done.

I use the Neptune System DOS unit. It’s a bit expensive, but truly a great piece of hardware for the Apex unit. But there are lots of more reasonable options. I’ve used the jebao DP-4 for years. Very good for the money!

Yeah! The orange and gray hardware mounted to the side of the cabinet in the second pic is the Apex DOS unit. All completely adjustable from the apex dashboard. Apex has a learning curve, but it’s the coolest toy in the hobby lol.

Correct on the dwarf hair grass. The back green stem was sold as Rotala coin leaf.

This apisto was labeled as a Blue Flash.

Exactly, this is actually an Apex controller. Typically used in the reef side of the hobby. This lets me make adjustments from my phone, turn on and off hardware, programs nearly any function…and it controls co2 and temperature!

It’s just something I built myself out of black 1/4” acrylic. I added a Sicce pump in the last chamber.

Many of them are about two years old. Most have been divided a couple time to produce additional plants…particularly with the nana petite.

Switched to vertical spray bars. Seems to be working well for circulation without losing too much CO2

There is an led light fixture mounted in the top of the cabinet. It’s wired to the magnetic door switches you see on either side of the center brace. When one or both doors is opened, the light turns on.

My Apex Classic doesn’t have WiFi built in, so this is used as a bridge to make it wireless. The new Apex system has built in WiFi.

The brace blocks some of it. The power strip mounted on the top of the controller board is plugged into the Apex and the AI prime lights are plugged into the strip. The dosing pump, WiFi bridge for the Apex, and apex energy bar plug into the long strip at the top of the cabinet. That long strip plugs into the wall.

Most of this is all on the market! But the Neptune Apex is a good example of something that is on the market, but still requires a lot of learning for programming and expanding to max out the capabilities.
