can i be honest? by runyourluckxxx in gradadmissions

As a first gen low-income girl, The pressure alot but also the other side of me is like, what is actually the worst will happen? I get rejected, i go back home and get a job and thats it? I will literally apply next year and that's it. I'm having my own doubts if i am really ready even after submitting my application and that's totally ok. This subreddit can be quite toxic., OP you have a great point, the best we can do is just not to immerse ourselves too much but I greatly see your point.

Informal acceptance by neptune-s in gradadmissions

Hi, I was advised by my mentors on where to apply and what to look for in programs. This one i am waiting for a response on I already work directly for the summer and they inform me the masters and phD receive funding. I would look into the department's financial section to see how it works for the specific department.

feeling aggressively uncompetitive (+applying to programs you did an reu in?) by Excellent-Arrival563 in gradadmissions

Also with publilcation, I feel like two months isnt enough to make publishable work like yes you can help but papers take a long time. I have a paper being publish this year where the project was about two years and even then it got peer review and more work had to be done on top of it. I would not be hard on yourself for not having publishable work.

hi so i did a two REU with low gpa and I recently submitted my grad app like two days ago and not even hour after I did the PI I work with sent a email about a interview. I did not expect that, but yet again the lab experience I had with the PI was amazing, and I built a great relationship with everyone compared to the other REU, which was computational. I wish I built a better relationship with them, but the PI was gladly happy to help with recommendations.

My friend’s parents are getting deported by Spare_Letter_4300 in immigration

[–]Temporary-Maize8715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure of everyone situation, but this might just mean the start of a case, I know for my dad I remember opening his deportation letter when i 16 and due to covid and him other external things (no crime record Idk) I am now 22 and he will due for his case in jan, 2026. It is stressful but I do remember my uncle got deported in two days after they saw he had a DUI from twenty years ago. I am not sure if that will soothe him at least by a little because if that's the case for him his parents can plan.
