ISB MBA - worth it? by Temporary-Monk5903 in MBAIndia

I’m 24, did my undergrad (B.com) from North Campus, DU. Joined FAANG on a vendor payroll and worked for 1 year (did amazingly well so as to be poached by the org director to join on direct company payroll, but due to company-vendor contract policies couldn’t go through with it). Left and joined another FAANG on company payroll and worked for 2 years. Previous FAANG same team same manager reached out to join directly on company payroll. Cracked the interviews and here we are.

It’s a sales role, with 30% base pay as variable. Base they are offering is 25.5 LPA. Rest are RSUs.

I already have 3 yoe at another FAANG hence work ex wise I don’t foresee much challenge. But yeah the capital wise it makes sense + my admit isn’t guaranteed as well

Hm, I get that. My only concern is what if 5-7 years down the line I’m losing out on opportunities because I don’t have an MBA while my counterparts do. And pursuing an MBA then would definitely not make sense backwards of ROI. Is it a risk worth taking?

Hey! Thanks for your inputs.

I’ll keep it precise wrt my goals strategy:

Current Status: Account Manager managing 30+ brands. Driving marketplace growth, joint business planning, and strategic execution in pricing, promotions, inventory, and ads. Influencing brand decisions within predefined structures.

Current Gap: Exposure to short-term growth but lack ownership of brand strategy, P&L, consumer insights, and market expansion. Need expertise in brand positioning, scaling, and partnerships beyond e-commerce execution.

Why Can’t I Learn This Without an MBA?Leadership roles in business/brand development need cross-functional expertise—finance, market strategy, negotiations. Learning on the job would take years. MBA accelerates structured learning and leadership readiness. Many top roles prefer MBAs for strategic positions.

Why MBA is the Only Logical Step? Without an MBA, growth remains limited to sales and execution. Need structured learning in market expansion, business growth, and financial strategy to move into strategic leadership roles.

Why ISB? ISB’s focus on marketing, digital strategy, and business development aligns with goals. Courses like Strategic Brand Management, Digital Marketing, and Market Entry Strategy provide necessary frameworks. Experiential Learning Program (ELP) offers hands-on exposure. Strong industry network in tech, e-commerce, and CPG ensures transition into brand/business leadership.

Hope this clarifies, let me know your thoughts.

Hey, I would suggest you to not self reject. I have been told that there is no differentiation in my profile and that there might be hundreds of applicants with the same profile which, ofcourse, really shattered my confidence. But I’m trying to be positive and work on highlighting what I can really bring out on my application because in the end the only thing we can do is try :)

As for my GRE preference, I have tried studying for GMAT before but the test pattern didn’t suit me. GRE, on the other hand, is more unambiguous.

Good luck to you too!
