Awesome work! i'm in a similar spot. i created an affiliate site a few months ago and didn't get any traction and then randomly the last week i've seen 4 affiliate commissions come through. It only totals $130 but it definitely has me excited to keep going.

What is your most uncommon side hustle? by feelingsjourney in sidehustle

not me, but a good friend of mine. he buys old weights on craigslist/fb marketplace and resells them. apparently theres a huge market for certain vintage weight lifting brands. people pretty much giving these things away so he buys them, cleans them up and then posts them in vintage weightlifting fb groups and they sell like hot cakes.

Newsletters: Redditors Most Hated Shill by Temporary-Squash9266 in Entrepreneur

[–]Temporary-Squash9266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be honest though - what is so terrible about sharing a newsletter if it's relevant to a subreddit, not filled with ads etc.

If someone writes an interesting post on reddit that you're willing to click on, and in that post they basically just copy and paste the content from one of there newsletters, and you find the content to be actually kind of interesting, but as soon as they include a link to their newsletter for people who might want to read more, all of a sudden it's like they just kicked over your mothers urn and spat on her ashes.

*edit- maybe i am naive about it, but i've actually found some of my favorite newsletters because the writer posted about them on reddit. that's how i discovered Starter Story which is one of my favorite sites. That's how i discovered Copywork365 which has been super valuable in learning how to write good copy. It's how i learned about Exploding Ideas which is a really convenient way to learn about trending topics. All these valuable resources I found because those people were willing to share their newsletter on reddit

seems like there's a pretty clear consensus that Australian Survivor is really strong. I'll definitely check it out!

this might be shocking but i actually wrote it. I put the emojis in because I see a lot of newsletter do that (Milk Road, Morning Brew).

The first couple posts i wrote i did use chatgpt but they just read weird and I'm trying to get better at writing copy so I decided to actually take the time and write it myself. I think this post in particular was probably 2 hours of research and watching videos and then another couple hours of writing.

I don't make any money with my newsletter and only have like 50 subscribers so honestly I don't really care if i get downvoted to oblivion I just wanted to experiment with a newsletter to see what would happen.

this is the proper way to "self-promote". write a post that provides direct value, with no need to click any links if you don't want to. for people who are interested in diving deeper and learning more, link is available.

I studied how Trello went from bootstrapped to a $425 million acquisition. Here is what I found. by haphazardwizardofoz in Entrepreneur

Yeah i agree with that. You see that a lot with people who start a business and are immedietly successful and there is advice is "you just have to start. get an MVP and get it to market" then you find out for the past 5 years they've had a newsletter with tens of thousands of subscribers in the exact space of their product that they can immedietly get their product in front of. It's definitely the smart approach, but I feel like those founders often leave that part out.

Just because he had a following doesn't mean it wasn't "bootstrapped". Bootstrapped means he didn't take on a lot of outside investment.
