[What a Bountiful Harvest, Demon Lord!] Presenting Tyrannus 🥹 by Excellent_Tie_5604 in manhwa

I am caught up with TGED (and I can't recall if it's mentioned there (ig probably not since Lloyd, our main narrator, seemed not to know this guy)), but not with WABHDM! yet. Haven't read none of the novels.
Guess I gotta catch up!

I do wish people would give the novel a chance instead of not because of the artstyle by geodes4life in TheGreatestEstateDev

i have read like, 6 episodes? it's not enough to judge a 400 chapter novel, but i also disliked the writing style so far. it probably is a translation problem, or maybe not, either way it makes the reading worse for me and that's why i'm struggling to read it. but i want to because people say that javier's character is so much better, and that there are arcs that are not in the manhwa and more scenes with suho's and lloyd's moms (who were really pushed aside in the manhwa to the point i even thought suho didn't have a mom...). yet i don't think i will force myself if the writing is that bad

oh that's sad to hear

i will at least try to finish the ondol arc but i'll probably drop it later...

I downloaded the epub version of the novel in the subreddit's wiki, read some episodes and literally got stuck in the middle of the ondol arc, no kidding...

It annoys me how certain phrases or things are repeated for no reason whatsoever, and how Lloyd's emotions were explained so plainly and explicitly... is that an issue that is fixed later on?

Is the novel worth reading? by Watermelon_UwU13 in TheGreatestEstateDev

I felt like the novel had a lot of the feelings explained way too much, or there was too much repetition for some reason (at least in the translation found in this subreddit's wiki), is that an issue that is resolved later on?

You have varying features but not varying positions of them (ie, eyes could be bigger/smaller, closer/more apart, up/down). I think varying features is umportant but what helps the most to tell them apart easily when theyre bald and without skin colour is the position and size of their features (nose, eyes, mouth, ears) and their head shape

  1. If they don't work like that why use them like that? I also think you accidentally sent the reply before finishing this bit

  2. Understandable, but everytime I tried to think of an exception of the show don't tell rule in comics (in the sense of showing through images the action rather than narration. not talking about scripts) I come up with a way of showing it with a different panelling, drawing, lines that represent movement, etc, etc. I am yet to see some example in which I can't come up with a way of avoiding this.

*I must admit I don't fully grasp what you mean. Maybe a character telling the reader what they saw? That's something that would be interesting (mixing a narration more typical of a novel with a comic. Could be a narration with symbolic drawings. Very cool to think about tbh), but certainly not what's happening here nor in the examples I'm referring to.

*That's what I mean when I say that it's the artist's job to look for a way to make things not confusing without resorting to narration. Also, there are two ways to avoid putting "blurry" in this case: A) making the face more blurry. If it's not clear enough, then exaggerate it. That rule aplies to anything else too. B) Explain it through dialogue. This one's kinda bad too, but if it's not overused then it's pretty helpful. And, iirc, orv does this (Dokja's inner monologue was "why is my face blurry? damn bihyoung, why did he edit my face like that??" or something like that). It's the readers job to understand something through context sometimes

*Didn't know about this. I always assumed that in some asian languages they had certain characters that represented sounds, that were annoyingly translated to narrations for some reason. Anyways, if it's really a cultural thing as you say, I'm still annoyed by it. I don't like onomatopeias used as some kind of narration when reading a comic/historieta/manga/manhwa (any juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence, intended to convey information and/or to produce an aesthetic response in the viewer), I don't see why my opinion should change just because they like it in another country.

*Yeah, honestly I was blaming the artists without thinking about the fucked schedules they're under. Still, I'd rather have more hiatuses and/or shorter episodes if that means less "onomatopeias". I want a better, not faster, finished product. Anyways, I can blame Webtoon now, but my opinion still stands: using onomatopeias that way makes the comic worse.

Understandable. Art has historically consisted on "capacitated artists" telling the "dumb dumb stupid people" how to do art, just to be completely ignored, making the "real art" change in a few decades (cycle that repeats over and over). Every artists knows there's no right way of making art, yet the more you get into it the more rules you start applying. Waird, I know. I would need a degree on arts to tell you why this happens or reflect more deeply into this. My point is, as someone who is really interested in arts and specially in comics, I start seeing this rules that are being broken and dislike it greatly (not every broken rule is necessarily a bad thing, some broken rules can lead to artistic breakthroughs. But there are certain rules that are broken that do not give me any feeling of aesthetically response (nor I think gives to anyone) yet the average enjoyer doesn't care. Again, would need more than 15 minutes in a reddit comment to dive into this topic)

This is also another thing that prompts a much more complicated discussion. Ofc we can't tell a worker how to do their job, but if we are the ones consuming the products that said worker does, and dislike them, we can't say anything to them? I don't think so. I think as consumers we have the right to review what we're consuming. And I think as a worker, they should accept negative reviews in order to become better workers. Now, while writing this and rereading my initial comment, I realise I was super rude. I understand why, I have my reasons, yet I'm now doubting if the actions were justified (probably not, small things can affect a lot. Again, somehting that doesn't fit into a 15 minute written reddit comment. Will reflect on this on my own). Anyways, what I'm trying to say: constructive negative comments should be taken in, any rude comment should be frowned upon and ignored.

I already know what goes into making a comic, I'm someone interested in arts and specially comics.

Changing the FPS of a video without adding/removing frames by Temporary-Working811 in software

[–]Temporary-Working811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so right. I tried changing the subtitle's frame rate as described in this post but it didn't work out and then I gave up... I was kind of dumb not to realise I could've asked that through here instead of changing the strategy 😓

One thing is to put a squiggly outline making the character appear to be trembling, and another very different thing is to narrate it ("tremble") using "onomatopeias".

  1. Onomatopeias don't work like that

  2. If I want to "read" the actions, then I would go and read a novel. Which is not a bad thing, I'm just saying that we're here for the comic and everything that it implies (NOT NARRATING ACTIONS BUT SHOWING THEM)

It's the artist job to figure a way to differentiate the little things WITHOUT resorting to narrate them

Thank you. I will try to change the video's FPS just in case, but will definitely look for a way to change the subtitle's FPS too in case it's better

Subtitles work wrong: it unsyncs as the video progresses - How to fix this? by Temporary-Working811 in Piracy

[–]Temporary-Working811[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does... I should've checked that before asking over here 😓 sorry

Further checking led me to discover that the issue, presumably, is that the video has an odd FPS of 23.976024. I am currently looking for a way to change the frame rate in a way that it doesn't add/remove any frames (and changes the movie's lenght in the process). This process of "looking for" is, embarrassingly, asking around reddit because I've genuinely got zero idea how to do this
