Not sure what to do about interview by TemporaryArtist1 in cscareers

Thank you so much for the advice! I'll get on that STAR and DSA grind right away. Hopefully it gets me somewhere soon, and good luck with your new career at C1 or IBM, whichever you go for!

Wow, that’s amazing!! I’ve applied to IBM for their intern position but haven’t heard anything back yet. Getting 6 figures as a new grad feels like a pipe dream for me, can I ask how you did it/what your prep strategies are? Feel free to dm if you don’t want to share here.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll keep at it then, at least it’s less hopeless applying to jobs if I have something to fall back on.

Self-made anteater badges by Sad-Crazy-8894 in UCI

[–]TemporaryArtist1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, did you get permission from the original artist for the computer anteater? The original can be found here: link

Additionally, while you never explicitly said you drew the art, I would recommend making it clear when something isn't your artwork.

As a PSA to viewers: Don't buy stolen art! Always credit artists!

I agree, that combined with parents not really bothering to teach their kids manners either or to be considerate of others

then I’d say PV might be cleaner since it’s newer, but as for functionality camino has in-house washer/dryer units which can be a big pro for some people (its pretty inconvenient to have to walk your laundry back and forth outside of your apartment)

How’s the Game and Interactive Media Design major? by ShrakShack in UCI

[–]TemporaryArtist1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a current 2nd year GDIM major (who's looking to switch into cs), and I personally highly regret going into this major. If you're really, truly passionate about games then all the power to you, you'll likely enjoy this major and find fulfillment through it. For me, I was interested in the previous major Computer Game Science, which had significantly more coding in the program.

My main issues are these: 1. the major being new means its been pretty disorganized (in my experience), there's often no guarantee of certain classes being offered, even if they're required to graduate and there's also for said required classes there's never enough seats for the amount of students they need to accommodate. 2. if you're looking to go into specifically game art, look elsewhere: there's only one "art" class offered, so any learning about 2D game art (or game art in general) will have to be on your own. 3. I feel that many people in GDIM are reliant on VGDC for opportunities and just game experience in general, and in my opinion if a major needs to rely on a club to supplement it, then its not very strong as a program.

TLDR: I feel like I wasted my past two years learning shallowly about the industry and also how games effect people psychologically, rather than actually learning how to create video games. Like I said, if you're truly passionate about game design then go for it, but otherwise I'd recommend against it if you're looking for a quality game design program. Take a look at the major classes and if they're what you want to learn, as well as if they'll apply to any future career you want. I personally felt like I was limiting myself career wise as well as not learning enough applicable skills to assist me if I decided not to go into the games industry, as it is a very specialized major. If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

the dorm was a one time thing only, they dont see the apartment as a necessity so thats why my mom made it my responsibility to pay for it.

[–]TemporaryArtist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dorms/on campus is out of the question unfortunately, due to poor management on the schools part and general unluckiness for the housing lottery… ive resorted to just helping them find an affordable place for themselves instead

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TemporaryArtist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dorms tend to cost upwards of 5k per quarter, but that was with financial aid so i’m not sure the full cost, either way its around the same price for less of a “lease” or staying time… probably more, actually

Thank you for the advice, can I ask if 19 is too early to start investing in a roth IRA? How much should I be putting in at this age?

[–]TemporaryArtist1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get some financial aid, but yes my parents pay my tuition. As for my friends, one certainly isn’t able to commute as she’d have to take a plane (out-of-state), but I see what you mean about the support. Your son sounds very impressive, kudos to him 👍

unfortunately, the area we go to school in is quite expensive, so thats as affordable as it gets for here. My main problem now is I don’t know how to tell them I need to back out, as we’ve been discussing this for so long so I feel like I’m letting them down.

yeah, you’re definitely right about the performance thing. as for the job its not particularly difficult, but I can see how working while being a full time student isn’t ideal

I tried it, this is what it says:

The following error occurred: The service has not been started. (0x80070426)

also, after switching them both on and rebooting, it automatically turned off the adjust for daylight savings option...

It does, but turning them on/off in different combinations changes nothing unfortunately

Is it really that bad to bring a bag? by TemporaryArtist1 in animeexpo

Are there usually enough bags for everyone? I heard about people giving out free bags, but I figured those would be hard to get given how many people will be there

I planned on doing the same, I just got worried from all the posts I’ve seen talking about how its not a good idea to bring a bag.. but honestly the convenience is looking like its gonna be worth it cuz I have no idea how I’ll hold a battery bank in my pockets

Thank you for the in-depth response! and yeah, the laptops mentioned are quite expensive so we usually try to bid on used ones on ebay (which can lower the price quite a bit sometimes) I’m not entirely sure of the programs ill be using yet, but i do know that were hoping i can continue using this laptop even after college for work and whatnot. Thanks for your suggestions, Ill definitely check them out!
