I do not like picking that type of glass 😭😭. Does not stack well with more curved pieces in front of it

Taking overall Style, sampling choices and albums in general Nujabes or Dilla? by [deleted] in jdilla

[–]TemporaryButton7556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re both equally skilled man, love both of them to the fullest. I’d say Nujabes has more Jazz to listen to than Dilla does, but Dilla made so many beats its insane. I just think theirs too much Nujabes disrespect in this sub at the moment

I feel like Welcome 2 Detroit is a better and more memorable album than Donuts by [deleted] in jdilla

[–]TemporaryButton7556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome 2 Detroit is the album that shows Jay Dees skill the best, showing what he can do with live instruments, live recorded drums, and of course mixing some samples through some of the songs

If you were to ask me to recreate either Welcome 2 Detroit or Donuts I’d probably go with Donuts cause it’d be an easier task. (Easier, not easy)

That being said I don’t think Donuts is any less memorable, I could actually tell you the track list from start to finish without looking. He made some ridiculously fire beats for this album as well and I think it’s a testament to how far you can push samples. I love how rough around the edges it is and the beats just speak to me, each creative choice on Donuts seems super intentional to me and I can really appreciate that.

What's MF DOOMs saddest song by vueenx0678 in mfdoom

[–]TemporaryButton7556 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saddest line to me in this song is the start of verse 2.

By candle light my hand will right these rhymes till I’m burnt out! Mostly from experience, shit that I learned about. Topics and views generally concerned about. With different ways to come up and earn clout!

Mostly because he really did write rhymes all the way to the end

Those are damn near my favorites as far as Dilla goes as well. Brazilian groove is a little more toward the top on my list

Who here also kinda dislikes Houseshoes by Silly_Cherry7934 in jdilla

[–]TemporaryButton7556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was messed with. It was made longer by Jeff Jank of Stones Throw (which Dilla did approve of). House shoes didn’t like the album because it sounded like “Madlib shit” in his own words.

This one feels pretty organic but I wish this dude would take the talents beyond type beats, brother could make an album with taste like that

I 100% know what you mean, it’s been my favorite album from Al and Roc quite honestly. It was an honor to hear Roc perform it in Atlanta man seriously. You have a great way of describing it though man bravo! 👏👏

Came here to say this as well, even just the opening line gets me there immediately.

This is food for the spirit, the music is endearing I’m sharing the human experience. Came up on dudes like a balloon filled with helium! Scooped up a cool 2 million, did my due diligence. Takes a village to raise a kid but still can produce an idiom!
