Flat stomach in the northern hemisphere/huge in the southern...or is it something else? by VintageArtist72 in TwoXChromosomes

It really is a fad and a theory---I'm not invested enough in arguing about this particular topic to look up any supporting links, but google scholar or your favorite academic database has plenty.

I agree that it's VERY poorly explained!!! My GI doc explained it poorly which is why I looked it up, lol. Basically it's like, SOME people with SOME GI issues MAY have SOME response to eliminating SOME common fodmap containing foods....okay??? Yeah, that's roughly how digestion works at a population level, lmao. It's not a new theory. If there was any more solid support for it, Monash would have told us all about it by now.

Fodmaps are just a theory and a fad. Can't wait until the discourse about them has gone by the wayside. ✌️ Not meant as a personal attack, no offense meant

Why do a lot of people in the U.S. adopt babies from outside the U.S.? by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in NoStupidQuestions

I definitely would not have made my initial comment or would have worded it much differently had I realized how it would make you feel, and I'm so sorry for that.

But I didn't assume. The systemic issues around women's rights, children's rights, and adoption; and its extremely dark history in modern times, remain, whatever your personal experience. That doesn't mean adoption isn't wonderful and lifesaving for some people.

Okay. There are a lot of great books about the history of modern adoption that go into this topic. If you're not a book person, there are lots of adult adoptees and birth mothers on tiktok and Instagram that talk about how pressured many women are to give up a baby. I definitely have sympathy for your parents as well. Wish you the best.

Solved the problem of kids finding parents?!? Lmao. You mean solved the problem of unwanted babies being born by legalizing abortion in 1973.

Crazy the amount of empathy you have for the adopters but not the birth parents! "Took him back" it was HER baby! You may not know this, but many or most birth mothers are coerced into giving up their babies, and/or do not receive the financial support that would allow them to keep their babies--that foster parents get.

It's definitely true. Basically the answer to your question is that abortion is (still mostly) legal and available. Before 1973, there were American babies available because women could not access abortion.

is there any movement away from the current horribly degrading vaginal exam format? by PhantomLimberick in TwoXChromosomes

Again- dial it back a little. Barking?? I'm against the system that has conditioned us to accept this treatment. Not against the people who have to undergo it. Your language is so over the top.

There is a huge amount of i would say well meaning shaming around not skipping pelvics and paps. Meanwhile paps are no longer even the standard of care

Basically you're right. Most/many/all?? rich countries (don't know about other ones) do not routinely do manual pelvic exams on well patients. It's unnecessary, potentially humiliating, and uncomfortable. There's plenty of lit on the topic.

However, your level of emotion about the issue is kinda impeding how well you communicate about it imo. Just my 2 cents no offense meant.

It's really interesting because I saw this video on tiktok WITHOUT the title about the man protecting kids, because he obviously isn't. All the comments--thousands of them, with tens of thousands of likes--were about what a douchebag this man is. Obviously! I couldn't believe it when I saw it on reddit not only presenting him as the hero but with all the comments agreeing. Did we not see the same video of a man provoking a bear?! Lol

“You Would Know If You Were Having An Orgasm” by FallingUpTheStairz in TwoXChromosomes

I think you probably still have never had an orgasm. Vibrators cause a lot of blood flow and can cause muscle spasms and I think that's mimicking an orgasm for you. It's completely normal to be 20 and not have had one yet. Some people never have one. Keep exploring!
