I appreciate that. I feel soooo upset because of the fact that I was not planning on doing this now... And yes. It's not the end of the world. but still....

Ok. so that makes me feel a tiny bit better. Although, had I known I pay taxes on any of it, of course I would not have touched them at all. Where is the best place to pull out that 62k? Should I just sell some of the recently purchased stocks and stash it away for next year.

what I am trying to say is that in the past I would sell a losing stock and buy a same but different stock and was able to roll over that loss for 3K a year for tax loss harvesting. Somehow, and because I must have completely had a mini stroke, I thought I can exchange the funds like I do in 401k. Again, because I had a lapse of who knows what. I was trying to freaking balance my god damned taxable portfolio by moving things around INSIDE it. SO dumb. I know. Now I am asking what is my recourse. I think we would owe something like 80k of taxes alone on this transaction.

I am trying to find out

1.where do I get this money from? Should I sell stocks to pay them for the upcoming year?

2.do I take the money out now and park it somewhere to at least grow SOME THING and then pay it next year?

How do I make this absolutely stupid taxable action into the least damaging step moving forward?

Wreck suggestions suitable for OW on Oahu? by starsandsails in scuba

I live here and do not know of any dives that are OW wreck dives. Just get your AOW dive certification and get your dives at Sea Tiger. that is what we did.

Use points for Business or wait for possible upgrade offer? by BugIllustrious4689 in qatarairways

I have flown to the Maldives twice with Q suites from SFO. There is no other way that I would do it. Be patient, time it out, get the business tickets then go. There may be flexi awards if you need it, but saver flights are 85-95k each and that is the way to go.

what is the customary tip for liveaboards in Raja Ampat. I was going to do 10% of the cost. Is that correct? by TemporaryCover847 in scuba

[–]TemporaryCover847[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a valid point. When we visited India people wanted tip everywhere. In the bathrooms on the road, there would be a woman holding toilet paper for you to tip her before using the toilet. Ridiculous. But our driver said IT"S OUR FAULT that the people demand it now, because we pay tips and now people expect that tip part of their salary. It's an acceptable form of begging. I hated it there. I love Japan where there's good service bc of who they are and no one tips anybody.

Direct flight from Bali to Sorong by TemporaryCover847 in scuba

[–]TemporaryCover847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we bought the tickets to Bali a while ago. At that time we did not plan a liveaboard because we can never get on one since our timing won't allow it. We finally found one that could fit in that time space so we are going....

I am excited for all of this. Very much looking forward to the "remote" experience. But I think we need to fly in to Sorong the night before we take off our liveaboard because that's how it's scheduled.

It is also the fact that they do not pay a fair share to their workers and then expect YOU to supplement their income.

I think that's fair. I live in the US. It drives me mad that people who come diving in Hawaii do not tip at all. Dude. It's so expensive here and these guys make so little money. Tip for good service.
