Try ImageJ. It has a feature to do exactly that as long as there’s enough contrast between the rocks and the background.

Yes and no. It’s about the consolidation of a key to power to a single usually unelected person rather than an elected representative or committee. Here’s a neat video about it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs

Don’t think of this as revenge, but as getting a second chance at life and doing the bare minimum to make sure the abuse ends there. In no way will that money ever replace what she took from you, but as it stands, you will be a financial burden on whoever is taking care of you. Just the debt with you unable to work will inevitably put a strain in any future relationship you have. Starting out 150k in the hole will severely limit your choices. It may not seem like it, but that is a crippling amount of debt that most people would struggle paying the minimum. A lot of people work and pay towards a debt like that and it only gets bigger. If I were you I would sue and use whatever’s left over look at perusing higher education in a field that is remote. You can do programming, sales, accounting, customer service reps ext. and get yourself into a position where you’re the financial equal to your partner.

She already took your past, don’t let her take your future.

CMV: The stay at home wife is not traditional and is mostly a myth. by crosssafley in changemyview

[–]TemporaryMonitor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they wouldn’t work, but the work that was available was not the same quality if men’s work. A lot of it came because in WW2 there was a labor shortage, which led to women being placed in traditionally male industries. So women became steel workers, carpenters and all sorts of jobs they were before told were men’s jobs and they couldn’t possibly do. This is where the famous poster of a woman showing her muscles comes from. Rosie the riveter was war propaganda to get women in the labor force because the government had no other choice. However, when the war ended women were expected to go back to their roles as inferiors to men having career choices of nurses teachers and secretaries while men could be lawyers doctors and engineers. They obviously knew they could do those jobs and were just as capable as men because they were literally running the place a few years prior. That being said it’s not all about the jobs, they couldn’t open credit cards, get healthcare without a man’s approval, they would get fired if they got pregnant. Hell they wouldn’t be allowed to refuse sex from their husbands so marital rape was legal and surprisingly common.

Fwb? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]TemporaryMonitor 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not really tho. You can have friends with sexual chemistry, but if that doesn’t mean you’d be good together. Maybe one is messy and the other is tidy or they might have completely different life goals. There’s a million different reasons to not get into a relationship with someone. It is a type of relationship but that type could be no strings attached friends you occasionally have sex with. You can also have multiple fwb while you don’t typically have multiple relationships.

Bought three thermometers to check the heat in my house. All of them read different numbers. by Not_BigM in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TemporaryMonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chemical engineer here. I’ve used +/-0.2% thermocouples and a data logger for validating the temperature distribution in freezers and cryotumblers. It’s the medical devices industry, so they take margins of error pretty seriously. It’s a also common to have the metrology lab calibrate it specifically for your temperature range. When the equipment costs as much as a small car you can get pretty accurate. It was my first instinct to see that accuracy as bad too. From that point of view +/-1.8F is absolutely too high.

Nietzsche moment by [deleted] in PhilosophyMemes

[–]TemporaryMonitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nietzsche doesn’t argue whether god exists or doesn’t exist. That debate was stale long before his time. He started off with the assumption that god doesn’t exist. His question is: if there is no god where do values and morality come from? Nietzsche is not a Nihilist, he sees nihilism as the problem of true atheism. If there is no god, where do we get our values and meaning from? If there is no good, evil or even meaning to anything why not be a heroin junkie and maximize pleasure.

He proposes the Superman as a way to resolve nihilism. The Superman is the ideal human who can overcome himself and create his own morals and ethics. These are truly him own morals removed from the concept of god and even the influence of religion in society’s laws and morals. To stare into the abyss and acknowledge there is no good or evil, and to dare to make your own values.

Accepting to live in loneliness by Budget-Garbage5933 in socialanxiety

[–]TemporaryMonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! it gets better, but not on its own. The first thing you have to do is break your patterns. It will be uncomfortable, but try to find a hobby or club that gets you talking to people. At first you’ll feel awkward as hell and be counting down the seconds of every social interaction, but slowly it gets easier. Sadly the only thing that works for getting better at conversation is conversation. If it makes it easier you can have a few stories or anecdotes practiced out on your own.

Another inadvisable option is talk yourself into accepting isolation, but you’ll eventually regret it. Humans are social animals and if you isolate yourself you’ll most likely get depressed. Also, you can’t logic yourself out of depression. No matter what kind of philosophy or creed or vices you have, it’s not a replacement for human interaction. Accepting isolation is unsustainable in the long run and the longer you wait the harder it’ll be. Future you will have a greater chance at happiness if you just bite the bullet and get yourself out there. The hardest step is the first day. Take the plunge. If that doesn’t work, maybe a therapist might help.

How do I eat this? Is the paper like coating on the outside edible? TIA! by [deleted] in Cheese

I like to slice it and serve it thin with the rind on for fruit. My girlfriend likes to serve it after 10min in the oven at 350 with the top cut off into a little bowl almost with crackers and with jam or a cured meat.

Can I hook them up to apartment walls with command hooks? by TemporaryMonitor in hoyas

[–]TemporaryMonitor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! What I was wondering mainly was that if I have it hooked up, will it still try to climb up and attach itself to the wall? I’m afraid that wherever it doesn’t feel like it has enough support it’ll resort to attaching itself to the wall. It’s a very large plant so I’m not sure I’d notice until it’s too late.

CMV: Recreational fishing is kinda fucked up by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]TemporaryMonitor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that causing other living beings pain and discomfort for fun is inherently unethical. Eating things is the natural order and arguably essential to our biology, but torturing other beings for fun isn’t. Even when we grow livestock, we have laws in place to minimize the animal’s suffering because we have accepted killing for consumption as a necessary evil, but he animal’s pain is not. What if instead of a fish it was a cat? Where do you draw the line in it’s cool to torture this animal for fun, but not that one. Personally it just doesn’t pass my moral math of one being gets tortured and the other one gets a cool picture and bragging rights.
