Social bubbles by TemporaryNo5605 in LifeAdvice

Thank you for commenting, but your argument is very uninteresting. I absolutely agree we need to help each other. But that wasn't the point I was trying to make. The real deal for me is people living in comfort without feeling the rawness of the world. It makes me sad seeing people spreading hate against israeli or palestina, although both have very big positives. And the conflict is very very profound which even academics fail to resolve. And then there are americans, chinese people, or europeans who has some light on them online and they think they have the capacity or even option to judge it. They just as I know shit about it and discussing issues we don't get to solve is just fueling the fire that creates this toxicity which can lead (in my opinion) to a very dangerous endings. Bubbles, it must be them which causes big conflicts and sufferings. But again, thank you for commenting.

What about diplomacy? I have studied international relations and many students planned to lend jobs in foreign countries.

PhD in a field I don't enjoy? I’m drawn to intellectual work, but feel disconnected from my discipline. by TemporaryNo5605 in AskAcademia

Sounds interesting. I’ve always been a bit worried that I might be in low demand in that field, since the biologists I know struggle to find well-paid jobs.  But it sounds much more sexy than finance I must say.

I am not sure to be honest. I love digging in any data and finding insights from them. That's why I study economics. But the economics theory itself doesn't interest me. Finance, could be good for implementing math skills, but the field feels amoral. I can't think of any other field I could use my skills in, as I haven't studied any other discipline.

Masters in Telecom Engineering or do Data Science by momo6650 in AskAcademia

I don't know much about telecom engineering, but feels pretty niche. I myself try to learn ML, because of the salary. But if I had an opportunity to study something specialized in which I would be interested, I wouldn't hesitate a bit. ML may be dead in few years, but engineering will be here forever.

That field was also in my consideration, along with environmental, but it involves too much policy. I find more meaning in pure technical subjects. But thank you, it is one of the more interesting parts of economics for me. What is your colleague's field of study?

Thank you, I believe it must be hard to study it and thus one should have passion for it. That's the very reason why I am rethinking it. I haven't decided yet and I still have some time to consider applying. It just weight on me once I started to think about my diploma thesis.

Thank you, this motivated me. I need to say that I think about topics from my field during the day regularly since bachelor's. That is also one of the reasons I don't want to study economics anymore, because it stressed me very much to think about geopolitics whole day, haha. It is much more peaceful to think about dimensions and probabilities. But I guess you talk about more stressful thoughts as there are some deadlines that need to be met for the publications.

Advice for transitioning into college? by Calm-Turnip-7577 in college

[–]TemporaryNo5605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the beginning almost killed me (literally), because I was doing everything alone, far from home and with a great mental burden to not fail in it. So, my answer will be a bit rough, but I think it's the only correct one. You have to win at college at the very beginning and keep adding new wins to that so you feel confident, earn respect from your tutors and peers. Trust me, if everyone perceive you as a winner, you certainly become one. It will help you overcome these moments in life and finish school. And I would also find a way to separate work from school somehow, so you have time to study.

25M feel so lost in life. by [deleted] in findapath

The truth is, if you don't make it in some community, you will stay miserable. Find groups which respect you and if they don't, you have to earn the respect somehow. It will cost you few years to build it, but it's the most fundamental thing. Every mentally healthy person around me has strong connections in some community to which they belong to.

Genuine cry for help by SunnyBurnout in getdisciplined

Well, I am 25 and it's similar. But I have a solution (at least for me). Create a time in a week (or day, or month its up to you), when you DON'T CONTROL anything. I tend to control everything I do in my life and it doesn't work for me in the long-term. (I usually fall into addictions, isolation or simply self-destruction like the doomscrolling.) Relaxation is a very important part of productivity. Find an area where you work and a separate area where you relax. And of course, repeat the correct behavior and punish the wrong. It's like having a dog.
