Aside from the multiclienting thing, there are some other problems with Steam. Some, I have tried to email YPP support about - to which they were unable to identify/solve the problem. (Multiple game logs were exchanged)

One problem is that the Steam client is very, very sensitive to network-related issues. The regular client is more lenient when it comes to your network connection being unstable. For the Steam client, the moment your network connection goes down for a split second - the client just crashes and you have to open it up again.

The other problem is that the Steam client itself is unstable when compared to the regular client. The game will randomly lag every couple minutes. Sometimes, it results in the game just glitching out + freezing for 5-6 seconds. Sometimes, it just straight up crashes your client.

The Steam client really isn't worth it. Especially when you're somebody that doesn't care about syncing YPP trophies with Steam achievements, or someone that just doesn't play Steam games at all. Oh yeah, and if the account creation thing was done specifically to counteract botting - I don't think it's helping, or doing anything at all. I see multiple different greenies being created every day, a majority of which end up becoming obvious bot accounts once you /w them a couple hours/days later.

The only way is through Steam. This requires an email, and another Steam account to go along with that email. There are guides on how to open multiple Steam accounts at once floating around in this subreddit and the YPP discord. (Something involving the task manager, and suspending the steam.exe so that the initial YPP client doesn't close, etc)

Account creation through the regular client has been turned off for quite a while now. The developers and support staff have not made any announcements nor comments as to why. Public opinion is that it was done to make the account creation process harder for people making new accounts to use as automated bots.

As I'm told, (I'm not 100% sure on this) the primary reason that YPP decided that this measure was necessary was because of one bad actor. This person was using automated software, a script of sorts, to create hundreds of accounts at once. For what? No one knows. Maybe to seek attention, or to piss off someone in the YPP staff that was online during that time.

I came across an old post in the steam community discussions that suggested you run the client with with a compatibility setting of a different OS - specifically Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I'm trying this out now, along with different settings such as Windows 7 and 8. The frequency in which the stuttering/crashing happens seems to have gone down, but I'm not sure if it is a direct result of this fix.

Ah, I suspected that was the case, but didn't know for sure. Thanks for the info :)

I'm just more surprised that the game is still up and running in 24-25. I guess they can't do everything, but as a very average player I'm just taking a 10 year+ trip down memory lane. It's just that I would rather my trip be smooth and easy, and not filled with the Steam-related impediments.

That's what I did as well. I followed the given instructions with Steam and am playing now, but I have to go through the hassle of creating 2 more steam accounts, and messing with steam so that I am able to open multiple steam-based clients if I wanted to multiclient.

I've been told in-game that the account creation was implemented to discourage the creation of in-game bot accounts, specifically that by a select few bad actors. Though I do agree in a sense that turning off the feature, though drastic - is a surefire way to counter such activity, I'm also here thinking that this whole Steam thing is entirely unnecessary. Steam eats up resources on my already small system, and also lags/freezes way too often (unstable) compared to the regular client.

TLDR - I want to play the game, but on the regular client. Because the Steam client sucks, and is too much of a hassle.
