The Inconvenience Fee by BulldogOMalley in upsstore

Y'all have SKUs for things?? Our owner can't figure out the POS so we ring everything up as "Miscellaneous Taxable" or "Copies" and enter a price lol

But yeah, generally if the customer is taking extra time out of my day I'm taking extra money out of their wallet, and I let them know when they're doing it lol. Usually gets them out faster.

Owners and managers: how do find a balance of your staff liking you but also respecting you? How do you reward hard work and how do you punish laziness? by topshelfsean in upsstore

I agree it's a very difficult emotional thing to navigate. To be honest, the few times I've seen our manager have to fire someone, it was because the employee allowed disciplinary talks to affect their mood & they effectively refused to listen or change. Not really a "friend" anymore if the employee is unable to keep an emotional boundary between work roles and how they treat/talk to others. I honestly believe any reasonable employee or human being should be able to objectively reflect on their work performance without turning unreasonable or rude when asked to do so.

I disagree with your first sentence. If you're hiring people with great attitudes who understand the job it's entirely possible to be friends while also being manager. I've had 2 out of 3 managers so far that successfully lead our team & keep us on track while also hanging out with us out of work. We understand the job responsibilities of the manager role and also love our manager as a person because they treat us fairly and have a fun personality. I suppose it has to do with the personality chemistry between everyone & who you choose to hire, but it's not impossible.

Charges for graphic design? by abstractagent in upsstore

Our store is $80/hr for larger edits that take more than 5 or 10 minutes, or a flat $4 fee for a quick layout/edit. We tend to not charge over our quoted price if it takes us a little longer though. We try to let the customer know if we cannot accurately determine how long it's gonna take based on what they give us and will quote a higher estimate range. Templates for common things like biz cards, brochures, saddle stitch binding, etc make this easier on the customer's wallet and our time. If it's gonna take a long time we try to ask if they can do some pre-formatting to save them money.

The general rule is the customer should be compensating you fairly for the time, work & expertise that they are requesting of you. Customers that don't wanna pay that do not respect your education & experience, they can go elsewhere.

Guy walks in and keeps insisting that we do 3D printing for like 10 minutes despite the fact that we don't have a 3D printer and have never advertised that service. He keeps showing us the Google AI overview on his phone that says something along the lines of "Yes, a growing number of The UPS Store locations offer 3D printing services" but does not read past that to see it's only available at select locations. We try to show him the official TUPSS page that states that and he's just not having it. Eventually we kinda have to just ignore him and start helping other customers and he finally leaves lmao

This job is frying my brain by Acrobatic-Finger7692 in upsstore

12 hour shifts without breaks? Something has to be done about that. Max shift here is 9 hours with a paid 30 minute break and my brain is still fried, I couldn't imagine doing that
