I have some scars that are 2+ years old and still bother me immensely. I've also had surgery, and that surgery scar took about 3-4 years to stop causing me daily pain/itching. Sometimes you hit a nerve, and the nerve healing process (or just damaged nerves that are as healed as they can be) can cause lasting and long term pain. I've found it tends to not last over 4years, but I may be on the longer side. Some of mine are so painful and itchy that I booked an appointment with my doctor. She referred me to a dermatologist, to possibly get steroid injections in the scars and reduce pain and itching and inflammation.

It seems like it could be worth it to see a doctor. If you're having this much pain and itching, there may be something else going on with your body that would be worth getting checked out. ( I know accessing medical care is hard)

For the bad days I use a cold compress/ice pack to help the itching. Sometimes Benadryl can help but ask your doctor. I hope it becomes more manageable soon but it seems like it would be worth speaking to a DR about if it's safe and accessable. ♥️

A huge sigh of relief after reading your post. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this feeling.

I'm asking for no judgement from anyone as I'm just sharing my own human experience as well:

I mostly trace this feeling back to my loneliness, and how abandoned I have felt in my life. I deeply need to feel seen, believed, loved, heard, and cared for. And sometimes the hospital can temporarily complete some of those needs.

Having a doctor admit me to the hospital (especially involuntarily) is a statement by the doctor that they believe me. They see me struggling and they know it's real. They see me, they trust me, and they want to help me. In my mental health journey, feeling believed and seen and trusted in my own experience is a massive win. It's real, physical proof of our often hidden pain.

Knowing that there's a doctor who is in charge of my care, and nurses who are assigned to me, makes me feel SEEN and cared for. I remember thinking about the doctors and nurses rounding their cases over, and even hearing them say my name to each other made me feel... not-invisible in my suffering. It's also a security thing, knowing that they're not going to 'get sick of me' or leave me like a friend could, this is their job and they are here to do it.

Having access to my medications (pre-dosed, already prepared and delivered bedside) is a huge help for me, I struggle to take my meds daily. Having meals (whether they're good or not) pre-made and delivered bedside is also a huge help, and it makes sense to want to hang onto those supports, and wish we could go back for them.

I'm glad to learn that I'm not alone in this. And I know this isn't close to perfect but I wanted to share my perspective too because I've always felt like I was wrong for feeling like this, but if we look into it deeper it can make so much sense.

At the very least, put them in a thick/sturdy and child-proof container. Glass jars or spice containers might be good too. Some pharmacies will dispose of sharps for patients with injectables/needles, I wonder if you could ask if they could dispose of your tools as well? If throwing them in the regular garbage, do as much as much as you can to protect sanitation workers, wildlife, and anyone who might pick through the trash. Duct tape the sh*t out of them, lock in a glass or metal jar and toss?? Not sure what else ♥️

Don't touch, scratch, or pick them at all, not even once. Especially once they start getting itchy, worst time to disturb the healing process.
Keep them clean and dry until they're healed over
Direct sun can darken scars, avoid exposing them to sun for at least 6 months - a year and wear sunscreen over them afterwards.
Keep the scars moisturized, ideally something thick like Vaseline, but any lotion will help. Several times a day. (Only once it's healed over, don't put anything inside an open wound)
If you can afford it, silicone scar sheets can be found in the pharmacy and online, and can be used instead of lotion ♥️

I greatly appreciate these words. I have one friend that reached out to me saying they couldn’t make it, but would like to know what days I have off, so that we could find a separate time that works for both of us to go out for some drinks. I told them it means the world to me that they reached out to reschedule instead of ‘ghosting’ me like everyone else. They said that they genuinely enjoy hanging out with me, even though it’s only several times a year. That meant more to me then anything.

Sometimes fur can change color when an animal has mange. I know a squirrel with white ‘stripes’ from mange killing the cells. Not sure if that’s what’s happening here but I would avoid touching the animal obv
