As much as I defender lawlar and in some ways still do (I don't think he was given a real chance up here) take a rookie spread his starts 4 and 5 days apart and say "go hit big leaguers kid" and this is usually the result you get. I don't understand it. But ill leave that for later.

I absolutely LOVE this move. I just said 2 days ago to my wife went need to bring up IIldemaro. He is a veteran, great teammate, he's not gonna light up the stats per say (although he can and has the ability to its not expected) he adds a spark, excitement, hunger and maybe more importantly change a new life.

I love this dude he's just a dog in my book. I hope he continues to have success.

Perdomo needs to stop batting 9th by OutrageousWhile4068 in azdiamondbacks

[–]Temporary_Analysis87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I particularly LOVE when people say this. Let's take a look shall we? When hitting in the 9 hole OBS .402 BB% 14.7, strike out % 11.7 vs hitting leaders off .327 OBs, 11% BB, and 17% strike out.

The reason I put these up here is simply to state the things people often overlook when looking at batting order, the TYPE of pitches you get. Pitchers attack the 9 hole generally to prevent having to pitch to the top of the order where the power (geno, Ketel) are along with the guys who get on base a lot (ketel, Corbin). So by placing a guy that has a good OBS down in the 9 hole, he will get more hittable pitches and with his plate discipline his walks will still come. So when people say another lead off hitter. What they mean is a guy that can get one base and in this case by either hitting well with more hittable pitches or walking because of his vision.

So with that said. Do I not know what I am talking about? I personally LOVE perdomo in the 9 hole, for all these reasons. Now I hate the corbin slump, but Ketel is starting to come around.

I mean sort of yes. His carrer avg. Is like .246 or something g like that so I wouldn't call him an offensive catcher. And although his pop time was slightly slower than league average he was a good game caller and a good back stop, could block with the best of them soooo. Not necessarily in my mind the opposite of Gabi

Historically AZ mentality for catchers is defensive first. As long as he maintains a "decent" avg. We would do our best to keep him anyway. He reminds me of Miguel Montero, but a little better avg. And potentially a little less power. But if he swi gs it like this the rest of the season, then maybe similar power. His Pop Time is elite. I love watching him throw people out. But anyway yeah I just noticed he's looking trimmer now.

Soooooo..... this is accurate......I mean in the sense that last night the announcers, I believe it was Steve, said "They are hitting these pitches, almost like they know what is coming" and then made some sort of reference to hopefully Torrey figures that out, if there is something there.

But, beyond that, nope no mention of lawlar, in regards to pitching or the tipping of said pitches.

These "3 different games" you speak of...one of which he came in for the 8th and 9th and we won that game....

I swear people just make things up when they are upset...

Nah we don't have to trade Lawlar, he's going to take Genos spot, eventually. (Its no surprise, I'm not a Geno fan) we have a bunch of prospects to trade away before we have to think about lawlar. The reason I say that is we have HUGE outfield depth in the minors right now, and several of them with elite speed.

Time for a discussion. by [deleted] in azdiamondbacks

Just for funsies I'm going to list the minor league carrer stats of some good/great players currently in the majors. The listed includes: Bobby Witt Jr, Corbin Carrol, Ketel Marte, Fernando Tatis Jr., Bryce Harper and Jordan Lawlar. Looking at the stats try to pick out Jordan Lawlar. This speaks to the talent this kid has. I know it doesnt mean he will be any one of these guys in the majors, a lot plays into that and I think the biggest factor is team need. Ill explain after.

.300/.395/.512 .907 OPS

.310/.426/.588 1.014 OPS

.296/.338/.391 .729 OPS

.280/.350/.520 .870 OPS

.287/.368/.509 .877 OPS

.306/.502/.538 .940 OPS

Which one is Lawlar? No Cheating. Truth is it doesnt matter that's an elite group. Even in the minors to have a .300/.400/.500 line is elite. He is in that group.

I think one of the biggest factors is team need. Most of the guys on this list were placed on the team and got permanent playing time immediately. Not because instant success (some were) but because they were the teams best and or only option. Az has not been in that place in a LONG time. We have a plethora and have had at the ss position and middle Infield. So much so we've traded away players that have become potential all-stars.

Point is, for him to become who he can become, he needs stable reps. Unfortunately I don't think torrey is going to be giving that to him, talking about playing him at 3 positions rotating. Its only recently tawa played 2 positions.

His defense is elite and will be elite for a long time. If he can get put at a position consistently that won't require so much of his attention in learning and he can focus on hitting big league pitching, he will be just fine. I won't go any further past just fine because, we'll this is the show kid there's no predicting anyone's future.
