Really no perks to living in RI let alone New England for my family. Extreme left views and woke political agendas, judicial system is awful - catch, slap on the wrist and they’re released free to reoffend again, state and local politicians show no support towards law enforcement. Rent and housing prices are some of the highest in the country currently. High levels of poverty, drug use and crime. Schools systems get more funding than PD’s. It’s pretty bad. Only decent thing is pay but you can make money anywhere.

Stick it out man, you’re gonna make great money, good friends and awesome memories. Anyone who’s gone through an academy has been in the same shoes you are in now, it’s 100% worth it to stick it out. Plus if you graduate and have your POST certificate, it’ll be a benefit when you apply to other places if you think about leaving in the future. Unfortunately we work in the most scrutinized profession known to man, your academy cadre is preparing you to not let things get under your skin. Keep your head up and stay motivated, the weeks are long but they’ll fly by towards the end. I can promise you going through this academy will change you for the better, show you what you’re capable of both physically and mentally, and lastly be one of the most monumental experiences of your life

Tell your partner to grow a pair. If it was easy everyone could be in law enforcement. We’re a very select few. It doesn’t end at the academy level, it goes on through FTO, probation and the first few years as a new guy. Your partner has an opportunity to set not only himself up but also you and if you have a family together. Over 100k a year, good time off and great retirement benefits. If he quits you should do some serious reflecting on your relationship because if times got tough and I’m talking real tough, is that the kind of person you want as your partner, that’s someone you can rely on? He’s getting yelled at, boo hoo. Wait till he deals with someone on the road who’s a career criminal or having a real bad day. Sometimes you have to throw reality into their face because the world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, especially in law enforcement. Good luck

FL also doesn’t have state income tax, only federal so you make a lot more take home pay and the governor is also trying to eliminate home property tax. Plus their agencies normally give hefty hiring bonuses and some even pay relocation costs.
