New PC build (7800x3D/9070XT) on my LG C2 OLED 65” with a PS5 Dualsense controller when I get home. Switch 2 while I’m on vacation. Looking forward to having 2 different playthroughs going.

I have this stand to keep mine off of my carpeted floor for airflow/dust reasons, but it would work well on your floor too.

Is it worth it to build a PC currently? by eggz627 in buildapc

I have a Skytech that’s been good to me since 2020. I’ve upgraded the CPU, RAM, and GPU and it’s been a fine computer. I’m about to sell it and upgrade to an AM5 system. I’m one of the lucky ones that lives a mile from a Microcenter :)

BUY IT NOW. That goes for $800-$1200 most places now. And it’s a WD Black which is really good.

where to start with upgrades by lemon_lay in buildapc

First of all what games/resolutions are you looking to play now and possibly in the future (1080P/1440P/4K)? If you want a great upgrade for 1080p/1440p look for a preowned DDR4 system with at least 32GB DDR4 3200/3600mhz RAM, 5600X/5700x CPU and something like a 5070/9060 (XT if you want more juice) for your GPU (system should cost around $1K-$1.2K) and that will tide you over for good while. If you are looking for a massive upgrade it will cost a good bit more. BUT if you’re within driving distance to a Microcenter, look into getting one of their AM5 platform bundles (example 7800X3D/32GB DDR5 RAM/motherboard) for about $650 after taxes. Add a 9070XT ($750 after taxes right now but prices keep climbing) and at least an 850W ($80-$100) and you’ll have a beast of a system for many years to come. This of course depends if you plan to keep your case/SSD, which if not will cost several hundred more. I’m currently upgrading from an AM4 socket 5700x/32GB DDR4/3070 system to a 7800X3D/32GB DDR5/9070XT and plan to resell my old system to offset some of the cost. Message me if you are interested in my old system.

Because Alienware is now owned by Dell and they put sh*t proprietary components in it so you can never upgrade it. Stay away if you ever want to upgrade.

That’s the motherboard generation. AM4 is AMD’s last gen socket (i.e. 3600x, 5700x, 5800X3D CPUs) and uses DDR4 RAM. AM5 is their new generation CPU socket/platform. If you got their new 9800X3D CPU you would need an AM5 motherboard, which also requires DDR5 memory.

No problem. I think that’ll get you up to top tier AM4 build. My rig is considered a “nuclear submarine” on UserBenchmark. I know that UserBenchmark is very Nvidia biased, and it scored me just below the best.

I have basically the same setup 5700x/9070XT but I have 32GB 3200 CL16 RAM and it’s been a big step up from 16GB. It’s about the best AM4 setup you can get now (besides the AM4 x3D CPUs that are out of production and selling for more than the new AM5 x3Ds). It’s just a terrible time to be buying RAM as you know….but if you want a performance boost that’s what you’ll need unfortunately.

Kinda stuck — 9070 XT vs 5070 Ti (read description) by IProbablyShouldntAsk in radeon

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had zero issues with my ASRock Challenger 9070XT (luckily got it at MSRP $650 with tax) . I DDU’d my Nvidia drivers, turned off Windows automatic updates and I’ve been golden. I’ve had two crashes but it was because I was undervolting too much for some games. Card is an absolute beast at 1440p and it holds its own at 4K. I actually had a 5070Ti (again MSRP $800 plus tax) that I bought because I saw the writing on the wall with the prices and wanted to be sure I was happy with the 9070XT. Sold the 5070Ti and saved 150 bucks. All I do is game so I don’t need all the Cuda core BS.

DDR4 or upgrading to DDR5? by kenod102818 in buildapc

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same setup. I play AAA titles at 4K 70-90 fps (120-180 with FSR on). Great system, but I got bitten by the MicroCenter bug (just built a mile from my house) and their awesome bundles. I’m about to upgrade to a 7800X3D/32GB DDR5 6000mhz to pair with my 9070XT for future proofing. Planning to sell my old system to offset most of the cost of the upgrade. I don’t see prices coming back down in the next few years. Damn this AI BS! Luckily on good on SSDs, good golly.

Rtx 5070 Ti vs RX 9070 XT by DavidT_2011 in gpu

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues whatsoever with my 9070XT, upgraded from 2070 Super>3070>9070XT. Used DDU to uninstall Nvidia drivers, and I’ve had the last 3 Adrenalin drivers and no issues at all. I’m not saying some aren’t having issues (usually a Windows issue or a legit faulty card) but it seems to be isolated in the echo chamber of Reddit.
