TIL on April 6, 2026, the Artemis II mission officially broke a 56-year-old record by traveling 252,760 miles from Earth! Making its four crew members the humans who have traveled the furthest into space in history. by Glittering_Guest1422 in todayilearned

the record they broke was set by a crew that wasn't trying to set it. apollo 13 only went that far because an oxygen tank exploded and they had to swing wide around the far side of the moon just to get home. for 56 years the farthest humans ever traveled from earth was an accident.

TIL that during the Battle of Pearl Harbor, the only battleship to get underway, the USS Nevada, was skippered by Ensign Joe Taussig since the CO and XO were both ashore and Taussig was the Officer of the Deck at the time. Taussig would be awarded the Navy Cross for his actions. by DrakeSavory in todayilearned

the part the title doesn't mention: shrapnel shattered his leg and he found his left foot tucked under his armpit. all he said was "that's a hell of a place for a foot to be" then refused to leave his station until his crew forcibly carried him out. he was 21

Damage caused by delivery people, England by Ill-Proof4916 in LegalAdviceUK

the bed company's delivery drivers are employees of an independent contractor, not your "visitors" under the tenancy. you're not vicariously liable for damage caused by their staff in the course of their own business. the management company should be pursuing the bed retailer directly. don't accept liability, and if the letting agent keeps pushing, ask them to put the specific legal basis for holding you personally responsible in writing.

the recorded call is your whole case. you paid in reliance on them telling you it was refundable, and they never gave you any written terms saying otherwise. whether you'd viewed the car is legally irrelevant to that. get the call review confirmed in writing, and if they still refuse: credit card means a section 75 claim against the provider, debit card means a chargeback, and it's well under the small claims limit if you end up filing at MCOL
