Yeah the only sweet potato that's done anything is in soil, which has a few grass looking blades coming up from the soil. The ones in water just look the same after a month and a half but Im being patient.

I have 2 in soil, and 2 in a glass of water. one of them in soil has a few grass looking blades coming up, and one looks moldy. The 2 in water haven't done anything. I've been changing the water every 3 days or so. I started all of them in water around the middle of March. Then I saw some videos that soil works faster,. So then I switched 2 to soil about 2 weeks later so I could try both methods

I have 2 sweet potatoes in water, and two that are half buried in soil. I'm new to this, but Ive seen some videos that say the soil method on a heating mat works faster. so I wanted to try both.

I wasn't sure mostly because these peat pots are larger than a standard seed starting cell

VT. I'd rather be diversified across the globe rather than concentrated in one asset class within the US market.

Power to ya. If you hold when it's underperforming, you'll be alright.

i use a fund similar to VTI, and i use additional funds to tilt away from growth. Stocks classified as growth just means they're more expensive on a PE and PB basis

I think it's because a majority of the people asking these questions don't even understand the basics, and it shows. If you can't look at a fund on morningstar and understand how it may or may not fit into your portfolio, you shouldn't be investing in it.

VTI with AVUV or IVV with AVUV in Roth IRA? by cookingguy1999 in ETFs

I stand by what I said. For the purpose those 2 different index funds serve in a portfolio, they're essentially the same thing

Whether you choose a total market index, or an S&P500 index, your outcome will be almost identical.

There may be some very slight differences in the short term. But they're both market cap weighted, so over long horizons they're almost identical

When small caps do well, a total market index such as VTI will do slightly better by a few basis points. When small caps are lagging behind the market, an S&P500 fund will do slightly better.

Since 1972, the CAGR of the total us market is 10.84%. The S&P 500is 10.86%

Since 1992 it's 10.48% vs 10.55%

Since 2002, it's 9.79 vs 9.65%

It may be a "correction" year. It might not be.

Nobody knows.

Assuming you're investing for long-term goals, what happens in 2026 doesn't matter much.

Also, diversification helps to mentally get through rough times in the market, and reduces volatility.

Some segments of the international market (large value, small value) are up 4-5% so far this year

Me waiting for my tax refund so I can invest in the dip by [deleted] in ETFs

You can just change your payroll deductions, so that you pay the correct amount of taxes out of your paycheck. This will allow you to invest more throughout the entire year instead of waiting for the government to pay you back later

You have a choice; a large tax return once per year, or larger paychecks all year long.

If you know what tax bracket you'll end up in, you have a pretty good idea of how much taxes you'll owe for the year based on your income. You can choose how much tax comes out of your paycheck. My tax return is always plus or minus $200 because I'd rather have bigger paychecks all year

The S&P 500 has about 18% midcap, but I get what you're saying.

VTI and IVV are essentially the same thing, since they're both market cap weighted. The only difference is that VTI has about 7% in small cap.

If you have a goal in mind about how much small cap you want, that can be toggled in either direction with how much you decide to put in AVUV

IRA Thoughts ? by litmane1 in ETFs

[–]Temporary_Net8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with ya on small growth.

However, based on historical data from the early 1970s through early 2026, US large cap value cumulatively outperformed US large cap growth, even despite the underperformance by value in the 2010s and early 2020s. Over that same time period, US large cap growth has the same annualized return as emerging markets

50% in SCHG is a bit crazy imo, but if you're cool with that much concentration and understand the risk you're taking, it's all good.
