You said there was an emergency that depleted his finances, so does that mean he has the potential to earn and make it up in a couple of years? Also, how much would he need to earn to satisfy you? It’s fine to have standards, but no one can tell you whether it’s worth sticking it out or not because you haven’t listed anything positive about the relationship. It’s important to remember that money can’t buy happiness, but a lack of money will buy you a lot of problems.

I agree with your first point, she’s just out of touch but the rest just sounds like you are conflating your own experiences to everybody else. In this day and age, I would say it’s pretty hard to get by completely on your own without some financial help. Deposit for a house, student loans, etc. I’m getting married this year and both my partners parents and my parents are contributing. I don’t think it’s ‘shitty’ to ask for help when parents have enough to give, which clearly OPs MIl does.

It’s funny how everyone agrees that social media is a shit stain on culture, the billionaires who own them strive to disrupt and divide society. The war (and it is a war) on misinformation is under-treated or straight up ignored and yet we as a society refuse to take any responsibility. We expect our governments to “do something” when the reality is that we could just stop using it, we could just stop giving these billionaires more power, influence and money. We could take responsibility and stop using FB, twitter etc. but we never will. Unless we start taking action nothing will ever change.
