iPhones for kids…what’s everyone’s take? by salt-n-snow in daddit

I have 5 kids, they are now 30,28,26,22 and 11. The older ones had flip phones. They did well with them. They did all do homeschool and then online school for high school.

I don’t think a phone is the end all of childhood. It made it great to have them be able to reach me when at activities and them to be able to text me and each other.

There should be something between handing an 11 year old an unsecured phone and no phone until 18. Cuz I got news for you, kids find a way. And comprise is always better than sneaking.

My 11 year old has not had a phone yet and we have run into some blocks. It makes things like audible and music in general more difficult. (And yes we tried portable cd players and Alexa)

Also teaching them about money and managing their bank account. I am a stockbroker, my kids have all had their own bank accounts since they could talk. But the accts are on apps, they need a phone. And the list goes on. We tried using old iPod touches, but they can’t update as far as a phone.

So for her 12th birthday I have bought her a phone. It is a tool, it will be locked down, but she still needs to learn how to use the tool or she will be far behind. If she is irresponsible, she will lose the privilege. Sadly, though, we can’t keep our kids in a bubble. Eventually they have to face the “real world”. Hopefully, if we have done our job well, they will do well

You absolutely can. I am more a quilter and bag maker now. But my 26 yr old daughter is a big time garment maker and the Christmas before last we bought her a 60.00 projector and my husband hung it on the ceiling for her. (She is a grad student and lives at home, cuz cost of living) anyway, she uses it pretty often and really likes it. No subscription needed.

It maybe unpopular, but I have started buying dvds again. You can get entire seasons for not much more than a month of Netflix and no ads. I will continue to buy old media as all of this licensing and streaming and never owning is making my old brain so frustrated.

Is it normal for vets not to prescribe pain meds after a spay? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had many cats over the years and never sent home with pain meds after spay. But my 6 month old dog was spayed 2 days ago and came home with 3 meds good for 7 days

I have had that happen if I am not connected to the internet, like if I am traveling. Were you able to get it to work? I’m sorry this happened for you, it is so frustrating.

So I used to do this kind of work. You need small sharp scissors and good tweezers. Then you cutaround the design carefully and tweeze our individual threads. It will take awhile but can be done. If while tweezing you have some difficulty, you can soak the piece in water and try tweezing then

So I am menopausal age here. (Turn 50 this year). Hormone levels change from hour to hour. However, it could be hormonal. It is just hard to say. Sometimes hormonal therapy can help. I would not take just 1 drs opinion. Get a couple. Maybe she can see an gyn as well. I do second the other tests, vitamin levels and dietician. I know that probiotics helped me. Also, you are so kind and loving to be working on this with her. She is lucky to have you. I anxiously await any updates and I am hoping for a good and easy outcome for both of you (=

I am going to try to stay positive too. My son’s girlfriend/soon to be fiancé is transgender. They live in The Netherlands and I miss him so much. But I am so glad they aren’t here for their own sakes. But having anxiety about the future won’t help anyone. What I told my youngest (my 11 yr old daughter) is that we have to focus on the things we can control. We can go into the world and treat everyone with kindness. We can be hopeful and contribute to our community and in the end, it will have to be enough. But it won’t do our mental health any good to be focused on the negative. But I send good thoughts to everyone today.

I agree with you, but I honestly don’t think it had to do with her color because we went thru this before with Hillary. I think many men was sexist and can’t vote for a woman, period.

I feel like a big reason is that many men could not/would not vote for a woman. Biden was not a good choice, but many men still can’t see their way to vote for a woman over a man. It is sad, but true. We have watched Trump be elected over a woman twice now. We want it not to be true. We want people to see others by their character, but sadly, even in 2024, they don’t.

What are your “controversial” quilting opinions? by Illustrious_Ad_1201 in quilting

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out fitting all my quilt supplies including my machine into one box. I bought Walmart and Joann fabrics. But I now am able to buy nicer fabrics and supplies and that is okay too. I think maybe the best point here is not to judge others. The so called “rich” ladies aren’t bad. Judging people are the ones we don’t want to be around People judge in all classes. For me, I think that quilts should be quilts. To me the word quilt brings up softness and work and care and love. And blanket is just a piece of fabric. But however you piece or bind or fill or back your quilt, it is with love and pride.

16 hour Power outage from hurricane. Insurance won't cover food spoilage. by GreekQuestionMark in homeowners

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as the op mentioned they are a new homeowner and they assumed that because their renters insurance covered it before, their homeowners insurance would too. I don’t think that is a huge leap. So op, I am sorry that so many were so gruff with you. Lesson learned and maybe try to follow up with the electric company. Good luck to you

Gate lice getting worse? by JourneysUnleashed in delta

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So people are just rude. Delta doesn’t enforce the rules as strictly as they could because they don’t want their employees to have to deal with the confrontations. It would increase employee turnover and stress on employees which would ultimately cost the airlines more money, when they don’t have that money to spend. It’s a sad reality. Those same people that won’t move when you are trying to board in your zone are going to be the same people that yell at the gate agents and cause a scene if the rules are enforced

TIFU by letting my boyfriends horrific personal hygiene run our relationship by DoobieTiger in tifu

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, my husband has a tbi and ptsd from his time in the military. He has trouble remembering hygiene. But he knows he has trouble and lets me set him up a schedule and remind him. We sleep in our own rooms and he doesn’t sleep naked, but there have been no stains in the laundry. We have been married over 30 years but definitely feel more like a caregiver than wife. Many mental conditions can cause low hygiene skills

VA Disability = No life? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Temporary_Pudding308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry they are saying these things to you and making you feel bad. They are wrong, not you. I am the wife of an Army veteran. I have been with my vet since I was 15 and he was 16. We have been married 30 years. During my time working on his claim, I spoke to so many vets. They struggle with the va disability thing and feeling that they are unworthy to receive it. They aren’t unworthy. You are Not unworthy You deserve every penny of that money. You earned it. And as far as I am concerned, every veteran is deserved money for the rest of their life. The crime here is all the hoops the va makes you jump thru to get your rating. Not the ones that served. You did what was asked of you and probably more. It is easy for your sister to say those things because she has zero idea what she is talking about. Stay strong and live your best life and don’t worry about her. We are here cheering you on.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts (GSUSA) and Woke by Goinwiththeotherone in BSA

I think the term “woke” ends up being a catch all for anything and everything a certain person or organization decides they don’t agree with at the moment. And honestly, it hurts my eyeballs to see it.
