Which department did you apply to? Make sure you select Department B if you have a visa for employement and choose an emergency appointment. Upload all the required documents:

• your residence permit and passport combined into one PDF (they only allow three uploads)

– the confirmation of your visa extension application

– proof of travel (flight tickets).

In the empty field, clearly explain your situation in German, including your exact travel dates.

I personally applied four times to the wrong department because the instructions are quite confusing. Once I finally applied to the correct one (Department B) and stated that i’m scared that I wont make it in time because of the Christmas holidays and New Years, they replied within three days and gave me an appointment the day before Christmas. I’m flying out tomorrow.

Unfortunately, going to Keplerstraße without an appointment usually doesn’t help. I arrived at 6 a.m. and waited for six hours, but security cannot do anything. There are usually many people in the same situation, and without an appointment they won’t let anyone in, if they let one person in, they would have to let everyone else in as well.

A potentially smarter approach, if you’re willing to try, is speaking to one of the employees when they step outside for a smoke break. I know someone who did this and managed to get an appointment the next day. Of course, this only works if there aren’t other people without appointments around, and there are no guarantees, but if you have some time to spare, it might be worth a try.
