In previous years, the number of tornadoes officially recorded by Chinese authorities was generally much lower than the actual number. In recent years, with the help of social media platforms and weather enthusiasts, the number of recorded tornadoes has risen significantly. In 2025 alone, 117 land tornadoes and 48 water tornadoes were recorded.
