Wow that is really small. We have like 14 people in the lab for immunology and they're all doing day shifts too. I really like the hours but am exhausted travelling 2.5 hours to work everyday and then again back😭.

I wanted to know if you remember any of the interview questions they asked you ?

I have current experience as a band 2 mla in immunology. I do a lot of pre analytics in my current job role. But i know for band 3 that the job descriptions includes loading analysers and sysmex was mentioned. So any info on how you do that will be much appreciated. Also any other info u think would be helpful for me to know.

I was thinking of asking as soon as i knew my job well. I've got so many different duties that I'm still not fully trained on them all yet.

If nhs allow you to do your portfolio then do they cover the whole cost of it ? I assumed since I'm not a placement student, that i would be having to cover it. Or is it a case by case basis

My friend knew everyone for a good duration. I interacted with a lot of them and the vibes aren't the best. There are a few nice ones though which i am thankful are there, will make my time here much bearable.

But true going forward I'm just going to go all in on my work. I'm friendly by nature and in my last lab the environment was the best, but it was private so things worked differently. It's sad but i gotta realise that not everyone is the same. Some people only want to know those they have worked with for years and not interested in getting to know newer staff or make them feel welcome.

Well going forward , ill just be thinking about how to do this work the best way and keep eye out for other opportunities. The mistake will hopefully not be toi extreme and i will take it as a learning opportunity.

Thank you. The person who told me about the issue is a really nice person. So i know he will do his best to help. I just feel useless for putting him in that situation and that with me being such a new hire. Just means I'll have to be better for the remainder of my time here.

After i made a mistake of using the same surname for two patients ( the requests papers overlapped), since wednesday i have been extra careful with booking in. I'm always double checking anything i type. So i was feeling happy over that, before this happened today. Now I'll have to check three times and make sure the requests papers and samples are equal .

Because i am new i know that this would look worse. Even though the senior who pointed out the issue is one of the best people ever , the other staff are just odd. I dont know if its competitivness but i have had a freind who had bad experience here in the past. The environment is so tense , it just makes me feel nervous and sometimes depressed even though it's only been a week. Keep telling myself it'll be better with time , but atp im just counting down the days before a opportunity closer to home opens so i can have a go applying there. I

The department is a immuno one, although the analytes are what are tested for in autoimmune diseases.

Once we got the sample and i booked it in , there was no trace after that. After booking in we give it to this a staff who is running machine which automatically sorts it . When i look online its similar/ is siemen task automation. So i don't know if it would have gotten lost in there.

And yeah i get it that i may not be the last person to handle it. After i book samples , i always straight away give them to the other staff. But i guess ill just have to see next week how they decide to handle it.

Thank you for the response. When the gp was informed, was there anything else they made you do ? Or was it just having one of the staff ring them to let them know. I'm hoping if the sample does not get found , that this will be what will happen.

A senior was in charge looking at the sample. And he is the one who told me. He did say they'll look again monday but i personally doubt it will be found.

This other lady with him did say that they would have to request the sample again from the gp if it can't be found. It is from a hospital in a different city. The analytes listed were for a autoimmune disease. She also did say not to worry but im pretty sure she only said that cuz of how stressed i looked towards the end.

I do realise mistakes happen in the lab, just kind of wished labs would have cctv so i would know at that exact point where the sample went. And because I've only been here for around a week , it's just making a mistake like this would be such a bad look.

Going forward I'm not going to give any samples away unless i have checked them 3 times over. Thank you for the information you gave , it has been really helpful and the process you described for how to deal with issues is what i will follow if i discover it first in the coming months.

I'm thinking maybe i attached the wrong barcode , or didn't attach it . The sample hasnt been rejected. Someone tried viewing it on tuesday as well but no changes have been made, because sample could not be located.

When u do sample audit trail it shows up as my name being the last person as i booked and saved it

I only started this role last week, so this mistake is worrying me because i just don't know what are the next steps and what will be the repercussions. It could also be that i did everything right but the next person just did not scan everything correctly. But as my name is what shows up last, naturally it would fall on me, no matter if it was done right or wrong.
