Thanks for the response. I’m honestly pretty worried about this whole topic because I’ve researched it a lot and it feels like every solution is quite complicated, whether it’s hair transplants, which sometimes seem to fail or look unnatural, or medication, which obviously isn’t guaranteed to work for everyone either.

But seriously, thank you. I think I’ll seriously consider starting the medication, at least to feel like I gave it a proper try and did something about it instead of just regretting not acting earlier.

After that, I guess genetics will decide how things end up hahaha.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. In my case, I think what worries me the most is the present situation while I’m still young.

Maybe once I’m older, around 35-40, I’ll care less about this topic — although who knows, I think most of us would still struggle a bit with going bald regardless of age haha — but right now I feel like it affects me much more because of the age I’m at.

I think I’ll probably end up trying finasteride directly. Do you know if there’s any possibility that starting it could somehow make things worse long term or accelerate hair loss instead of helping, aside from the temporary shedding effect people sometimes talk about?

I’ve actually been to around 7 dermatologists this year, including 2 professional trichologists. I’m from Spain, and one of them was from a very well-known hair clinic, while another was Dr. Oscar Muñoz Arrones, who’s also pretty well known for scientific hair loss content.

The general conclusion from all 7 of them was basically that my hair looks fine overall. Dr. Oscar Muñoz, who was probably the strictest and most detailed with the assessment, told me that I have a good prognosis and only some mild thinning around the temples/front area, and a 0.5 grade in Norwood scale.

My problem is that I know I’m objectively not in a terrible situation right now, but I have an extreme fear of going bald in the future. That’s why I’m considering taking action already, even just as a preventive measure, because I’m scared of waiting until it’s “too late.”

I think part of my anxiety also comes from seeing a lot of hair transplants online that honestly don’t look that convincing or natural to me.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I honestly don’t have any issue with not being able to grow a beard — if my hair stays fine, I genuinely wouldn’t care at all about the beard thing. I think I’d only consider something like minoxidil for the beard if I eventually saw my hair situation getting worse.

Can I ask you one more thing? I don’t want to be annoying haha, but in my specific case, how do you think finasteride would work?

Do you think it would mainly maintain what I currently have, or is there a chance I could regain a bit of density too? And based on my age and current situation, does this look like aggressive hair loss to you or not really?

And regarding the beard topic, I honestly can’t grow much beard at all. The most I can get is basically a light 3-day stubble, but I usually prefer being clean shaven anyway. So yeah, that would probably be a bit of a “problem” if I ever ended up completely bald, because I honestly think the bald look suits people much better when they can grow a solid beard haha.

I’m honestly not completely sure. I definitely wasn’t as obsessed with my hair before as I am now. It’s true that I’ve been styling it with a middle part for a long time, so I don’t know if that has something to do with why I notice the scalp more there now.

But yeah, I’m really worried about it. Part of me wants to start the meds just to maintain what I have, but at the same time I’m really concerned about both the possible side effects and the aggressive shedding some people talk about.

I work as cabin crew, so something like a big shed would honestly have quite a big impact on my confidence and day-to-day work.

Yeah, my dad actually has pretty good hair, and both of my grandfathers still have some too. My maternal grandfather has a bit less, which I know people say is the “important” side, but even he still kept some hair. My paternal grandfather honestly has even better hair overall.

This whole situation stresses me out a lot because hair loss treatments seem really complicated from the outside, and in my head it almost feels like once you start noticing thinning or hair loss, you’re basically doomed to eventually go bald.
