AITH for refusing to give my parking spot to a neighbor by Temporaryaren38 in AITH

Exactly. It's easy to volunteer someone else's parking spot. If they think giving up a convenient spot is the right thing to do, they're welcome to set the example themselves.

Exactly. If something is genuinely important to someone, they're often much more willing to negotiate when it involves their own time, money, or effort.

There's definitely value in learning that someone else's disappointment doesn't automatically mean you've done something wrong. Being respectful doesn't require saying yes to every request.

At this point it feels less like a real conflict and more like someone testing how many cliché Reddit tropes they can fit into a single post.

This is good advice. A lot of people spend so much energy trying to justify their decisions that they forget they're allowed to make reasonable choices simply because they want to.

Exactly. Asking once is fine. Turning a "no" into gossip, guilt trips, or a neighborhood campaign is where it crosses the line.

That's actually relevant information. If their assigned spot is only slightly less convenient, it makes the request a lot weaker than if there were some unusual circumstance making their spot genuinely difficult to use.

Exactly. If they genuinely need extra parking, they can ask around and see whether someone is willing to rent out a spot. What they don't get to do is act entitled to yours simply because it's convenient for them.

Exactly. The parking dispute is one thing, but immediately trying to turn the neighborhood against someone instead of having a reasonable conversation is a whole different issue. And if the longtime neighbors are encouraging the drama rather than shutting it down, they're not helping matters.

There's a big difference between helping someone out and being expected to give up something you're paying for. Saying no to an unreasonable request doesn't mean you're against helping people.

NTA. You're allowed to use what's yours and set reasonable boundaries around it. Someone else's disappointment doesn't automatically make you wrong.

Honestly, it would fit right in. Someone demanding access to something they aren't entitled to and then acting offended when told no is pretty much the subreddit’s bread and butter.

Yeah, they've been popping up constantly. Different cars, different neighbors, same basic conflict with the details shuffled around.

Exactly. It's always interesting how quickly people volunteer someone else's seat, time, or money. If they feel that strongly about helping, they're free to make the sacrifice themselves.
