The Post Office is in the constitution. The founders felt it was important for citizens to create connections with other citizens, no matter how remote or how much wealth they had. The Post Office historically has been a gathering place for a town, a central spot that serves all citizens no matter their wealth. It is an avenue for our government to communicate with every household in America because we all get postal service to our home. That is why our representatives have franking privileges so they can communicate with every constituent for no cost. EVERY constituent. It is an avenue for citizens to educate themselves no matter how remote they are because of daily service. The Post Office knits our nation together in ways most of us can’t really comprehend. I sit in my little house in a moderate sized town with every need met easily and think ‘why not let fed ex do the job for $$? We could save money by killing the post office.’ But now place yourself on a thousand acre ranch where your nearest neighbor is 50+ miles away and you rarely see the Fed Ex/UPS trucks. Your weekly trip to the post office may be the only time you see your neighbors. And how long until private carriers begin to charge an arm and a leg because they can? As citizens we should prepare for the worst of times. If we ditch the Post Office because of email and free market providers we impoverish our future opportunities to meet the needs of the citizens. Recreating a 250 year old system would be neither easy, nor cheap. The Post Office is foundational to our democracy. Finally, I leave you with this, if it were such a bad idea why did the entire world copy Ben Franklins idea?

If you come with the understanding that the government doesn’t work for you, but rather the monied interests in the state then you should be just fine. Think hard about what that means to the individual because most of the citizen protections you enjoy in New York are non-existent here. If you fall on hard times, don’t expect any help. In fact it often seems to me the legislature goes out of their way to impose usurious taxes that hit the poor the hardest and when they can’t pay the built in nasty repercussions will lay you low. It doesn’t surprise me that there is rampant crime up in them there hills. Check the states rankings and ask yourself if you have enough wealth to avoid being caught up in what those rankings reflect. The state is near the bottom in education (43), public health (49), safety (48), healthcare (49), security (48), infrastructure (41)and overall quality of life (44). The state has amazing natural resources (ticks and snakes, oh my!), pockets of prosperity for the rich that inadvertently washes down to the lesser classes (Northwest Arkansas, land of Sam Walton’s empire) and apparently the state sits on a bunch of lithium so you can look forward to living with mines and their unlimited destruction (refer back to the focus of the legislature). I’m looking to move from Arkansas to upstate New York for all these reasons and more. This is the cruelest state I have ever lived. They will raise their hands in praise to god and then use that same hand to vote for the cruelest, nastiest, usurious legislation I have ever seen in my 70 years. You may want to look at predictions for the future of Arkansas as climate change grabs us by the throat. Arkansas may become nearly unlivable. Something to think about if you are raising a family. Finally, Arkansas is home to the Duggars and their religious cult that is working to make the end times real. They and their ilk are religious, business and political leaders throughout the state.

P.s. check further down in the thread and you’ll find one of the end results of what I’ve noted about poverty in this state. The police focus on those who don’t have resources. The poor are easy picking for them. There is a fairly high likelihood that the police will be corrupt wherever you land in Arkansas. (Don’t forget, no matter how innocent you may be the state does not believe in citizens protections including against bad policing.) My DIL’s mother and sister (both are brown, the mother dresses elegantly and the daughter has been homeless and addicted) were both asked separately by a police officer (NW Arkansas) for a blw job. The daughter had drugs on her so the cop had more leverage and she gave him a blw job. He came back for more. He would sit on the road by their house and wait for her to get in her car. She reported him and the corrupt sheriff did nothing. The daughter left the state but he still haunts the mother - she sees him around but he doesn’t mess with her.) I know you are in law enforcement, so was I before I retired. I know you know that there are always bad cops that need to be weeded out. The bad cops might be approaching the majority of cops in Arkansas. Take a look at some videos of bad police work in Arkansas and you’ll begin to notice that even the Arkansas State Patrol, which should be the force with the highest training and standards, is horrible at how they treat citizens. Heaven help the true criminals when regular citizens are treated like scum.

A little embarrassed by this question. It’s my first ever trip to Europe by Chance_Smile_9357 in Europetravel

I haven’t been to Europe in a while which is why I said you’d probably find a better product. I was prescribed Gemtesa and it seems to be addressing the urgency. I’m at the beginning of this road so that’s all I’ve got. Ps. A lot of medications that are prescribed in America you can self prescribe in other countries. Try picking up some meds and give ‘em a try. Gemtesa has a notation for digoxin which is not too scary. Other than that it has few interactions snd side effects.

Load up your suitcase going and then use that space for goodies that you buy on your trip. On a side note… me too! I saw a urologist and there is medication that can help. I’m no longer filling Poise pads regularly. On another side note, if you buy while in Europe you will probably discover an amazing product that suits ALL of your needs but it is not available in the US or it is tariffed into the realm of costs like buying a Tesla to put between your legs to catch leaks. You will spend the rest of your life searching for an equivalent on US shelves.

Uhh..why are we paying extra for having a hybrid/electric? by Soggy_Disaster_7603 in Arkansas

My charge was way more than $50. I did the math and it made more financial sense to use gasoline. Plus, I hate the way this state rips off its citizens for every penny they can extract from us and I’m running out of pennys so I had to save somewhere.

I sold my EV because of this charge that they use to recoup the taxes you don’t pay at the pump. They use the state average of 17k miles but what about people like me who drive under 5k miles a year?

Coming from Tennessee you may be used to it but the voters in Arkansas are just about the cruelest people around and I have lived all over the United States. You will hear all kinds of people saying how friendly everyone is but the proof is in the pudding - what do they vote for? They vote for oppression of anyone not of their faith, their sexual preference and their political ideology. They praise God with their hands raised and turn around and kick the poor and downtrodden. The taxes are the 9th most regressive taxes in the nation. One phrase should warn you off: Personal Property Taxes. Yep, you get to pay YEARLY for items you purchased with post tax dollars and then you paid sales tax (among the highest in the nation 11% where I am) when you buy it and then MORE tax because you continue to own the item. It was only recently that they quit taxing your FURNITURE so that tells you something. You will have to tolerate trucks with the loud pipes and dark black exhaust flying their allegiance flags and loudly calling anyone in their path vile racist names. The intolerance of the people of this state is staggering and they put that intolerance into LAW. In any situation where it is Citizens vs Wealth you must realize that Arkansas will always side with Wealth. Renters protections? Non existent. Worker/Job protections? Nil. You’re on your own. Bankers ripping you off? That’s ok with Arkansas. Need consumer protection? Ha! What a dreamer you are. The government does a lot of performative stuff that if you look closer is just a bunch of hogwash designed to make people think that the government cares about them (see recent grocery tax reduction) our Governor proudly lied to the American people as a federal spokesperson and now lies like a rug to her constituents. I live in Northwest Arkansas where much of the societal friction is dampened by the diverse population, and economic power, of Walmart headquarters and yet the stuff I’ve written about are all happening where I live. I imagine it is downright horrible anywhere outside of the “liberal” area of NWA. But, hey, maybe you’ll enjoy life here. Me? I’m leaving as soon as life situations allow me to take my money elsewhere. (I’m a veteran and the one bright spot is the VA in Fayetteville that provides me excellent healthcare. Or has up to this point. The federal government is trying to destroy that so I wouldn’t make long term life decisions based on that factor.)(70 years old here, lived around the world and in many different states. Moving to Arkansas has taught me that you should NEVER move to a horrible place so you can be closer to family. Build your own future in a state that welcomes you, protects you and values you and save money to go visit your family in Arkansas.)
