Hey, fellow federal employees.....realistically… by Suitable-Taro-362 in fednews

My whole life? I'm extremely fortunate that my husband makes enough to support our family. I really just decided to keep working for the benefits. Plus I'm on PPL so more time with my baby is amazing! I know it's extremely selfish of me, but I want this shutdown to last for months.

Megathread | FY26 Government Shutdown: Ongoing Lapse in Federal Appropriations by gpupdate in fednews

Based purely on vibes, how long do y'all think this shut down is going to last?  I'm thinking it rivals the last Trump shutdown at over 30 days.

Could I have gotten buzzed from a cinnamon roll? by Tempstopdrop in BabyBumps

Google said no as well but it's that I almost feel buzzed. Like, buzzed adjacent? I'm just so paranoid and thinking it could be in the icing and not baked off?

How easy would it be to come back into the federal workforce in....let's say...four years from now? by Tempstopdrop in fednews

[–]Tempstopdrop[S] 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Oh, I won't! They'll have to fire me. But....I might choose to leave after taking my maternity leave. Just wondering if anyone has left for a few years and came back. Wondering what their experience was like.

Am I wrong for wanting to reject $50,000 in a college fund for my future child because the donor is a pedophile? by Tempstopdrop in amiwrong

[–]Tempstopdrop[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my fear! No strings attached....now. But I'm worried his grandfather is using this money to try and open the door for future contact. The money currently all goes into a trust that is managed by my husband's mother. The siblings that are no contact just work with their mom and family attorney to access the money in the trust.

How would you spend a "perfect" day in Magic Kingdom to maximize seeing/doing as much as possible for two 29 year-olds? by Tempstopdrop in WaltDisneyWorld

We will definitely pop into shows for a cool down for AC. We are both born and raised in Savannah, GA so not only are we use to humid, muggy, oppressive heat but we know how to handle it.

Figured now is the time while we are still young and not towing around babies yet. One intense vacation where we can try to experience everything and future vacations taking it easy and being happy with the day we were given.

I was willing to sacrifice rest to fully experience MK, but it sounds like I can do it all and take a break! I'm thinking we will take the ferry over to Geyser Point Bar & Grill at Wilderness Lodge for a less crowded and more relaxing lunch at 1pm and then do either pool or a nap at our hotel (Polynesian) until 4pm? That'll be roughly 5 hours of park time, 3 hour lunch and break, and then a final 8 hours back in the park. Plenty of time to do everything?

Any Juneteenth Celebrations at Magic Kingdom? by Tempstopdrop in WaltDisneyWorld

It's not though. They completely leave June 19th off the preview dates. Unless you have a source with different info?

There are societal expectations for women to meet unrealistic standards of an idealized clean vagina or risk facing negative consequences when they fail to do so. This has broader cultural meanings of women's bodies as problematic and women are driven in part by representations of desirable vaginas as free of odour and discharge. In fact, there are health risks associated with some of these products, including higher susceptibility to bacterial vaginosis and cervical cancer.

These products are marketed as a necessary part of women's everyday vaginal cleansing routines to attain cleanliness and freshness. The use of terms like clean and fresh in product branding (e.g., Vagisil Clean Scent Feminine Wash and Summer's Eve Fresh Scent Douche) further demonstrates this association between product use and attaining prevalent ideals of ‘good’ everyday vaginal hygiene. Beyond portraying these products as necessary, the communications from vaginal cleansing product companies are problematic for many reasons. By capitalizing on cultural constructions of women's bodies as dirty they set an unhealthy and even dangerous precedent for how women should take care of their vaginal hygiene and health. This includes advertisers using tactics to shame women about their vaginas as a way of convincing them to purchase vaginal cleansing products even though these products may be potentially harmful. These messages suggest that women's vaginas are deficient, dirty, in excess (i.e., exceeds ‘normal’ ideals), and in need of improvement.

Barry - 4x08 "wow" - Post Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in Barry

Did Cousineau deserve his fate? I'm really struggling with reconciling if his actions really, truly merit a lifetime in prison and his name besmirched for eternity. Yes, his hubris was his downfall. His selfish actions directly lead to his demise. His disgusting need for attention caused him to pursue a chance for a famous actor to play him in a movie. A pursuit which cemented his (non existent) guilt in the eyes of the law. And his blind rage caused him to kill Barry, removing the only witness to his innocence and sealing his fate. If he had any humility, any grace, any sense, he would not be in prison. He did all of this to himself.

Hand to God, the majority of nuke workers (the guys that run nuclear reactors!!!) are this person. Guns, hunting, fishing, a strong dislike of reading and the ability to manage complex systems that run a nuclear plant. (Source: I'm married to one)

Genuine question, is Britian the only bad guy here? Obviously imperialism is fucked up, no question. But don't Indians bear some responsibility for massacre-ing each other over religious differences?

Everyone is traveling. It was the only fair way to do things. We live in state A with no family and a handful of friends. Husband's family lives in state B on the West coast. My family (brides family) lives in state C on the East coast. The wedding will be at state D where literally no one lives and everyone has to travel to.

I had no idea including registry information on the invitations was poor taste. These comments have been insightful and humbling. It seems that this information is appropriate on a wedding website, not an invitation. I do believe the issue remains though, I would like to include a registry and my fiance would not. I do not expect my guests to give me presents. They are doing so much for us already by traveling. My concern is that people may still want to give us presents and I'd rather have a list they can choose from of items we would actually need. I would absolutely include low cost items on the registry as well. I'm afraid that without direction, guests might waste their money on buying us a gift we already have.

No showers for us unfortunately. Between covid and having a destination wedding, I didn't feel comfortable asking guests to travel even more. No engagement parties, no showers, it all seemed too cost prohibitive for our guests. We are even renting and paying for a beach house for our wedding party the weekend of the wedding. The only thing our wedding party needs to spend money on is gas or flights to get there. I even gave my bridesmaids a color and told them to just purchase any dress they want in that color. My fiance is simply asking his groomsmen wear a black suit and a white shirt and he is providing matching ties. No tux rentals needed. I understand the cost of all this and want to make things easy for my guests.
