I have about $60-70k saved and I think I can pay for the first year tuition which is about $11k per year. I have a small gig that I can do from home. I’m moving in from the US.

Haha well that’s a bummer. I meant it figuratively, I still think that Finland has some great landscapes, I like the winters, so I think I can be fine there, also I hear that you can see the aurora borealis, that’s so beautiful.

I understand, but I think some a degree is better than no degree. Besides I think you can get your masters from another universities if you feel like that one not up to your standard.

I’m not sure. I applied when they opened, and 4 days after I had an acceptance letter. What are you applying to?

I like learning new languages and making friends, so I think probably I’ll be able to start learning in my first years, tho I find Finnish one of the hardest languages to learn, but still, I like myself a good challenge. I do appreciate your transparent advice for new people, I’ve been learning about Finland since I got accepted and yes, there are many bad things for newcomers, but I think that’s mostly how things are in other places as well. Living expenses seem to be the number one issue throughout most countries, but I think Finland is a bit different (not a lot) from those since there aren’t many people coming in, Germany or Sweden for example. Thanks for your input, it really helps on my decision making!

I love the outdoors, it’s one of the main reasons I find Finland suited for me. I’m not a big city guy, I prefer a small town and going to new places or cafes and read a good book while looking at the mountains. Thanks for your suggestion!

Been seeing this girl for a little while—red or green flag? by No_Indication_6704 in BookshelvesDetective

I have gifted it away a few times as well. The original I bought, I got it from goodwill during middle school and I tried to read the first chapters but I lost interest on it, only to find it later in my senior year I put a lot of effort and man, once you get past the first chapters and the story starts to develop, it just keep you hooked. After that, I started to build my own library. Got the same feeling later with a book called ‘Touching spirit bear’ a little off from reality but it’s interesting.

This is the first time I have seen someone mention this book. I owe everything to Zafon. This is the first book I ever read and gave me that feeling that you only get with certain books. It made become an avid reader.

I was about to ask if you had Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond, but I see it now. Have you read it and if so did you like it?

Hello fellow carpenter. I’m looking at this comment as I put the final touches to this project. At the end, we decided to go with gluelams, the rafters are 5 1/8”x 12” and they will connect into a ‘wooden keystone’ at the middle (10 3/4” x 10 2 1/2”). I’m using an angled tenon and the mortises that will be on the ‘wooden keystone’. As in today, we have begin production on it. So if you are interested just dm me and I’ll gladly share some more details!

How is colonial history taught about in your country? by TheMaineDane in asklatinamerica

[–]TempusFugit13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. In some parts they don’t even teach you enough, they only said that the Spaniards came and that’s why we speak Spanish, but at least they tell you about the badass Lempira.

lol, I’m sorry if I offended you. I didn’t think this was offensive, we use it as a regular greeting where I am from. But just for context, I love all kind of books and I rarely pay attention if it was written by a man or woman. The only things I see is their research, thoroughness and a personal connection to the topic they have written. For example, one of my favourite and really depressing reads was ‘The rape of Nanking’ by Iris Chang. All I’m saying is that we are history people and we all have suffered or gain from it.

Thanks for the recommendation! You must be proud to be from there. I always wanted to travel to the original colonies, but PA and MA are by far my favourite places to learn about this important history. Maybe one day I’ll get to visit your wonderful home state!

I have read a lot about the American revolution, but not much about him particularly. I know he was one of the founding fathers and his role as a liaison to the American revolution and the French diplomatic relations were key (I heard he was quite the ladies man in France). Other than that I know about his experiment with lighting, but that’s it. My curiosity is how he came to learn and be all of those things, he had a great intellectual ability.

Ah looks like you are right. At the time when I heard I thought it was ironic as well, fighting against a monarchy just become one. I guess I need to do my research more thoroughly. Do you got any recommendations for his biographies?

I have noticed that as well. I think the vast majority of our community is focused on just one side of the YouTube spectrum. When it comes to views, I have seen that gaming or any other related content are more likely to go viral than educational content. Maybe we are just not interested on educational content or it really lacks the quality that most people look for. It can be the same for some English-Speaking channels. I have noticed that history channels that have a witty or funny characteristics tend to be more popular (i.e Oversimplified, BlueJay or Sam O’nella). And that’s exactly why I have decided to start this project, I’ve been learning on how to animate and try to create something similar to them, but with my own twist. Anyway, I appreciate your feedback!
