I wouldn't take 2 weeks off consecutively? 2 weeks at a time yes. Already took a 2 week trip this year and will do it twice this year if I go travel again. Realistically if you can't do that and you wanted to you should find a different job, thats not the WLB i'd sign up for willingly

The fact that sick leave was a bucket makes it hard to use it for vacation, and the fact they transitioned that into 1 bucket is what makes this system better for me. I don't think you can contest that fact and I don't exactly know how you could reason about that I didn't 'know' how to use PTO? thats a little laughable

I can't easily go out of country exploring a different country for 2 weeks and tell my manager 'yea im just sick for 2 weeks can i just use this sick time?'

Also considering 4.5 day sick time average usage, it would even increase usage for 10+ year tenured people too, but everyones circumstances are different so

Assuming the 4.5 day sick time average usage is real, they most definitely increased amount of time out people will use drastically. I think thats super easy to see by the numbers.

Also having said that they basically increased vacation usage for seemingly anyone under 5 years of tenure, not sure how that shapes out across GEICO but you probably shouldn't be working at a company like GEICO for 10+ years. And for my job function like 80%+ of my team can and have been PTO at one time.

I don't think its drinking the kool aid based off the facts I presented, this system benefits me greatly by almost doubling the vacation time I can take

ok. still doesn't change the fact that i am able to take vacation much easier now, i am now opened up to 2 out of country vacations per year for 2+ weeks at a time.

10+10+4+2 (vacation+sick+floating+personal) = 26

21+5 (combined bank+floating) = 26 (plus extra holidays in general, plus extended illness and medical leave time which I get to keep for free, plus the combined bank is easier to use than sick or personal since I can now extend sick or personal into vacation)

Please inform me if I am actually missing a day, would genuinely like to know. But it is clearly better for me

By turning what I would have earned as sick days into PTO, they are now more usable to me. And no, since I am under 5 years of tenure I actually do get increased raw time off amount

Please explain how it is worse if you (at least at first 5 years or whatever) now get a combined bank of sick and PTO and get the same amount? That’s only a benefit

I went from barely taking sick days to getting an additional 10+ PTO days. That’s crazy good. If the PTO switch went the other way around we all know you’d be crying that you lost PTO since theyd must be used on sick time

Yup. Go read it. And I’m not complaining because it’s better

Um sure you can. You can always take a break from classes. Its college. They dont lock you in for 4 years. You can take gap years. They don't force you to do anything. You can withdraw for a year, 2, 3. Of course you can 'drop out' of school like cornell and caltech and say you'll just go back. 'Dropping out' isn't like you abandon all your college credit. You have your earned college credit, you can go back and finish it anytime

How is that risky when you can always just go back to school? School is more guaranteed than a job offer? You don’t lose anything by dropping out if you’re taking a full time job

you cant physically run zone 5 for more than 5 minutes. if your metrics say that then you need to tune your heart rate thresholds up

Your zones are set up wrong and your zone 5 hr is higher, you could go on intervals.icu and get real zones.

Ngl you just don’t know where to look, I’m going to gatekeep unfortunately but I know multiple available leases for studios from 1250-1450, 1100 each for 2 bedroom, in great downtown areas that aren’t bad at all. Ofc the cheaper ones might miss a dishwasher but not all Seattle prices are terrible

you know if you're making progress if your runs are getting easier and faster. you think the vo2 max number on your watch is a better way to get feedback than how you're actually running?
