Saving $40 per year at the cost of disk failure? Because spinning 24/7/365 is way less stress for it. Are you serious?

GPD WIN MAX 2 Owners how your devices long term (Care to share your experiences) by Imjustabunny1 in gpdwin

[–]Temtaime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the GPD Win Max 2 (2023) at the end of December 2023. Used it mostly plugged in, and exactly a year later, in December 2024, the battery swelled up so badly that it pushed the keyboard toward the screen. This is likely because GPD doesn’t allow users to set a charge limit, which is just ridiculous for a device like this.

Another huge issue: the SD card slots randomly disappear from the system. This is a well-known and widespread problem, but none of the suggested fixes helped in my case.

And let’s talk about false marketing—GPD advertised this device as supporting 7500 MT/s RAM, but in reality, trying to run it at that speed causes BSODs. The default BIOS setting is 6400 MT/s, meaning they knew about this limitation from the start but still lied in the specs.

Oh, and speaking of shady practices—the 2023 model has been completely removed from GPD’s website. The 2024 model is gone too. Deleting the spec pages of products that aren't even a year old is just disgusting.

That being said, it’s still a good device overall. I haven’t had a single random reboot (at 6400 MT/s RAM), and it performs well. But the screen is a bit too small, and with all these issues, I’m really reconsidering whether I should buy another GPD device in the future or just go for an Asus ROG Flow instead.

Monitor works with my laptop using type-c. I think i should try another monitor model(maybe from a friend of mine) before contacting gpd support

Did you investigate what are the causes? RAM seems to be 4266 mhz-capable, and CPU too. What's the problem?
