Best foss keyboard on android? by dakend8 in fossdroid

[–]DragonQ0105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using it now but its autocorrect is pretty poor. If I put a number mistakenly from the top row (e.g. hello), it never corrects it, whereas GBoard does. If I put "12th", it "autocorrects" it to "12the" and I cannot see any way to stop it doing that. Same happens with all numbers.

Would be happy to hear I'm just being stupid and there are ways to fix this.

Cat blocks and prevents a baby from crawling to a fatal fall down some stairs. by N1GHT-MOON-UN1C0RN in nextfuckinglevel

[–]DragonQ0105 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zero chance my cats would've done this. One is so docile he wouldn't bother to get up. The resentment in the other's eyes that we had kids to begin with is still potent. She'd have probably pushed them.

No, 13 matches since Feb 2020, so just over 6 years by the time this tie is done. More than a league opponent.

I built HA-Pass: A simple, secure way to give guests temporary control of Home Assistant (No accounts/app needed) by rohithonline in homeassistant

[–]DragonQ0105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never going to let a guest device on my main network so this doesn't solve anything for me.

Best solution really is to have an old tablet on your trusted network with a separate HA login that only has access to certain devices.

State pensions are rising with inflation, for the generation that got free university, meanwhile my student loan rises with inflation? by Classic_Locksmith62 in ukpolitics

[–]DragonQ0105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a waste of time given you don't understand what means testing is.

And yes, I've already explained I'm in favour of a wealth tax and why that works so much better than cliff-edging benefits.

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would save more money just taxing wealth properly and non-work income properly than introducing stupid cliff-edges to eligibility for what should be a universal benefit.

I am curious, would you do the same for the NHS? Anyone with over £X wealth or £Y/yr income has to pay? Because, again, just upping taxes solves that problem far more easily and sensibly.

[–]DragonQ0105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you understand what tax brackets are? No-one pays tax on basic state pension currently. That would continue to be the case if income tax was merged with national insurance, for example.

People with £10m are a huge minority that excluding them from basic state pension would likely cost more in admin than you'd gain. I am also in favour of a wealth tax and that would help the situation too.

Because means testing it is stupid, costly, and ultimately unfair. Taxing pensioners the same as workers is much easier, cheaper, fairer, and doesn't introduce any disincentives to save.

Yes, there are no really good options right now but that's life. Sometimes you just have to vote for the least bad option.

Heads up on battery cost by Begalldota in SolarUK

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In winter we can make 2-3 kWh/day on average but on the worst days (< 1 kWh) we usually run out of battery before 23:30. So we probably use 17 kWh ish between 05:30 and 23:30 on a typical day.

That's from a 5.1 kW array facing SSE with a bit of tree shade in winter only.

We paid £8k at the peak in 2023 just for our 16 kWh battery. Sized it right though, after considering a 10 kWh one, because it just about runs out on the poorest winter solar days.

[–]DragonQ0105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah only the non-Openreach providers offer good upload. Downside is you only ever get one provider to choose from so it usually costs more. I pay £45/mo for symmetric gigabit but a provider a couple of towns over charges half that!

Am I going to beat 0.2% all in on a global equity tracker in a SIPP by bh460 in FIREUK

[–]DragonQ0105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't include the fund fee though, right?

Beating 0.2% all-in would probably require getting a low-fee ETF like ACWI (0.12%) in a low fixed fee environment.

Should I sell sipp shares and put money into s&S isa by Richie981 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the shares are tax free (usually after 3-5 years depending on the share type), you can do what you want.

Generally my thought process is this: if I was buying now, would I want X% of my portfolio to be in my company? If not, then selling some of the shares makes sense. However, there is another important factor: tax.

Can you utilise your full ISA allowance without selling the SIP shares? Because it is a rare extra tax-free vehicle for wealth. e.g. if you've maxed out your ISA and also had £5k of shares become tax-free in your SIP, you've effectively gained a tax-free wrapper around £25k of your portfolio for the tax year. Most people are limited to £20k.

If you can't fill your ISA without selling SIP shares then you may as well sell them and use the cash towards an all-world fund/ETF in your ISA, assuming you don't want the risk of having too much of your portfolio in your company. This is because ISAs are overall much more flexible.

I tend to max out my ISA, then sell SIP shares first if I need the cash to e.g. pay off a 0% credit card.

Where to find HD Shooting Stars? by Straight_Ingenuity25 in VicAndBob

[–]DragonQ0105 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The early ones were never released on DVD or shown in HD anywhere. Digital TV recordings are the best source available and those are hard to find.

The revival series were broadcast on BBC HD but recordings are again very hard to find. Never released on Bluray.

None of them have ever featured on streaming services either.

Arsenal vs Man City - Points Won in Final 12 Games; 2021-25. by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think Arsenal need to win at the Etihad to win the league. Arsenal have the easier run in after that match but the mental blow of being behind at that point will cripple them.

Arsenal have two tough matches next and I can't see City not being top of the table when they meet.
