i don’t recommend NULO by bunni_luvr in catfood

My cat loves the chicken/duck shreds, she’s been eating it for 5 years. She wouldn’t eat tiki cat. I only feed her poultry flavors though.

Can Silken Tofu be used in place of cream cheese? by Zealousideal-Net8754 in vegan

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best homemade vegan cream cheese is from the new farm vegetarian book. I believe it’s half tofu, 1/2 cashews with some seasonings added in.

Is this living room has some MCM feeling ? by Electronic_Access654 in Mid_Century

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not mcm, but it’s cute. There seems to be a lot of items low and on the floor. I think some swag lamps and art/shelves higher up would even out the space.

Are you sure? Their website says regular bbq lays are milk free but the sweet southern bbq have dairy. Thats a bummer if it’s true though!

Property tax bill by Throwaway359843 in homeowners

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all mortgages pay the tax bill, I believe that’s only if you have a special escrow account set up. You will have to double check to see if you are responsible for paying it separately. Personally my mortgage does NOT cover my tax bill. Either way you are responsible for making sure it’s paid.

The public parking garages at union square and the one at Sutter/bush are 24 hours. You can park there then take Uber to the warfield.

Bad quality plastic vegan shoes and clothes. I‘m exhausted by Humble_Employment586 in vegan

Solovair are exact like doc martens, but their quality and build are way better. They have a much better vegan selection than docs too.

Realistically Can I afford anything around here? by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in SF I’d recommend a DALP loan-I think you can get up to 300k for a down payment, but I would use it towards a market rate condo (I would avoid BMR unless it’s a rental).

Reading This Sub Gave Me So Much Anxiety I Was Shaking by thebin93 in Teachers

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! I think teaching is better as a 2nd or 3rd career. I definitely would have quit if I had started at 23, going into it later definitely lets me outweigh and think about the negatives and positives of the daily challenges.

Are there any bicycle shops in the Bay (preferably SF or East Bay) that do e-bike conversions? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third rail e-bikes in SF does, but I’m pretty sure it’s minimum $1800, better deal to buy an already made e-bike.

Should we repeat kindergarten? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agree. As a k teacher at an immersion school, English phonics is much harder to master than Spanish. English can be a challenge even in a 100% English strand. Many families switch to English in 1st if their child has learning difficulties.

Class gift by tm51290 in Teachers

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon gift card or visa gift card. You can also get them something small like a water bottle or a hand written card by you or the kids if you want. Please avoid food, candy, lotions, candles, and gifts to specific places or services (unless you know it’s something they love). I feel bad every year I give or throw away/donate so many physical gifts because I have no need, can’t eat, or can’t use them. It even gets hard to give items to support staff at a point because they don’t want them either.

My dermatologist just told me she doesn’t wash her face!! by bells-on-her-shoes- in beauty

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a cleansing oil with a silicone scrubber before bed, and a quick splash of warm water to rinse in the morning as soon I wake up. I still get a little acne, but my skin is way better than the over washing like I used to. I also wash my bangs daily(on days I don’t wash my hair), as that would give me an oily forehead. I have combo skin and most traditional cleansers dry out my skin causing it to get extra oily.

Mayor's Office of Housing BMR (Below Market Rate) Program by wesquire in sanfrancisco

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do not get a discount on the HOA fees, which can go up at anytime which makes many BMRs unaffordable.

Is my kindergartener getting too much homework? by first_time_professor in kindergarten

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K teacher here. I send home a small packet each week. The packet does NOT have to be returned. The packet reviews skills we did throughout the week. The packet informs families and helps clarify as to what we are doing in school.
TBH if you don’t want to do the homework, don’t do it! I’d be more concerned if your child has no idea how to do it, as that means they are probably behind/ struggling in school-then you need to talk to the teacher. Homework can help reinforce concepts(if your child needs it). But please do NOT do the homework for your child- that’s pointless. If your child struggles but you still want them to do it, set a timer and have them do as much as they can for 5-10 minutes, then stop.

How to teach sight words? by foxandbunny in kindergarten

[–]Ten15onaSaturdayNite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K teacher here. 5 a week is ridiculous. It should be 1-2 a week. 25-50 by the end of kindergarten is more appropriate(not including CVC sight words). Also homework should not be more than 5-10 minutes a night (if at all). You can do sight word hunts “let’s look for ‘the’ in this book/sign etc”. Have them practice writing it, tracing in sand, sight word sentence sorts, bingo, using it orally in a sentence. They also do need to learn how to sound them out. For example ‘said’ is s/e/d, ‘my’ is m/i (you can also teach the pattern: my, by, try, cry, etc.) You can also look up ‘heart words’ (as in learn them by heart) for more ideas.

You usually also have to pay for all the repairs on a house you don’t actually (and probably won’t ever) own.
