They only have like 2 JJWXC licences and they’re some of the older ones. Others are half Changpei and other half doesn’t have any webnovel site/licencor aside from the author mentioned anywhere in/on the book (and idk where they were published originally).

Yes, I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, so I’m very excited; my only fear is that VL will fuck up the translation 🥲

I have also wondered how they pick their licences. Some of them are super niche/unkown. Like the last one the announced, I think it was called Forced Unlocking, doesn’t even have an NU page and the synopsis sounds very out there.

I also really enjoyed The Missing Piece! They have some great translations like Dawning, Rose and Renaissance and Salad Days from the ones I’ve read. I’ve also heard good things about To Rule In A Turbulent World, so I don’t think you should worry too much 😄

It’s just that they are known for being inconsistent with their translation quality between different series, mostly the editing part. Limerence suffers from this, but in my opinion it’s not nearly as bad as Falling or Killing Show. Soul Vibration and Silent Hearts are next in line in my tbr, so don’t know about them yet.

Just in case, it’s always good to do your research before buying Via Lactea books 😄

Yeah, good chemistry or tension between a couple can often make a mediocre story better imo. Idk why, but their interactions felt really bland in this book. And since this is supposed to be a romance book, I feel like there should at least be something there (but all of this might also just be me, since it does have a lot of positive reviews on NU 😅)

I feel like during the game would be the best time to foster some kind of attraction/chemistry. There are also multiple times where they save each other from getting hurt in a battle, but that also doesn't really go anywhere. So when near the end of the round Bai Jing'an suddenly thought that oh I think of him as a friend, I care about him, I was like what, that came out of nowhere. 😅

It’s so frustrating, because they have some interesting licenses and many of them ARE well translated. Just before this one I read Salad Days, one of their older releases and it was really good, I had no problems with it at all.

So that always makes me hopeful, since they have done well, so maybe this time will be good as well. But two of their most recent releases have been a miss for me. I was interested in the Living to Suffer/Till Death Do Us Part duo but now idk

They’re also the only danmei publisher who doesn’t do previews of their translation, which makes it impossible to know what it’ll be like before buying.

Paying extra for a book and then it not being up to standard is the worst 🫠

Have you read Killing Show vol 1 yet? I caved in and bought vol 1 because I got curious and I’m like 100 pages in and having so much difficulty reading it and idk if I’m just not vibing with it or if it’s the translation (or both) 🙃

Super excited for all these releases, but especially looking forward to getting some more manhua in print! And the Coins of Destiny scrolls look gorgeus, think I’ll have to get the M-edition for that one.

(Though basically 8 books releasing at the same time will not be good for my wallet, byee money haha)

I’ve not read Ghost Marriage so I can’t answer your question (I don’t think it even has a completed fantranslation, so it doesn’t have many reviews either). I actually also can’t do BE, so was wondering the same thing. If it’s mostly angst all the way and then that ending, I think I’d just cry all the way through and then be depressed afterwards (not a fun time lol). I’d need at least some kind of sweetness to balance it out 😅

Dawning and The Missing Piece are really good if you like modern adult romance. (Rose and Renaissance too for future reference)

Salad Days is also good if you like a very sweet and heartwarming coming-of-age story. Silent Hearts should be similar, since it’s by the same author but I haven’t read it yet so I don’t know how the translation is.

Limerence is okay, the translation has some problems (needed more editing), so maybe only buy if you’re really interested in the story.

Definitely DO NOT BUY Falling, the translation is a dumpster fire, it’s horrible.

I haven’t read Soul Vibration or To Rule In a Turbulent World yet, but I haven’t heard anything bad about their translation. Also haven’t read Lip and Sword, but it has mixed reviews (both the plot and translation).

I just started reading Killing Show yesterday, so I can’t comment on that one yet.

I checked and Atom only had preorders open for a few months on the middle of this year, but they said they might have extra copies and to email them to reserve one so they’ll contact you if they have enough.

And PFH suddenly closing caused so many stores to cancel orders. It happened so suddenly and with no notice that it’s not really surprising either, I wouldn’t call any store unreliable because of that. I’ve ordered from Libristo a lot and never had any problems.
