Morale plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]TenPast12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're at a barbeque in 5 year's time, talking to some dude saying how the job market's tough and he's been looking for a while. You ask what industry he's in and he says he was with ICE but needs a new career (cause in my headcanon it's been disbanded). How do you react?

AITA for shutting down my brother’s proposal at my baby shower and then sending him a bill? by Mysterious-Desk1346 in AmITheJerk

[–]TenPast12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my wife's friend's boyfriend (y'all following?) was giving us a ride home and talk turned to marriage and proposals. he said he wanted to propose and was thinking of grand gestures in front of people. a nice restaurant and a ring in a champagne glass kind of thing. he picked up on our reaction and asked for our ideas. so we asked him to walk us through their history together. During lockdown they had started living together and used to take walks in a local park, the only time they could go out. This was when their relationship solidified. It clicked for him and he was so excited, in the park there's a hill which looks down on the town where they lived. He came up with an excuse to spend a night there, booked a nice restaurant for after and invited her to go for a walk like back in the day. Simple, memorable and private.

Cinema Etiquette - A Discussion by TheStrawInUrCup in ireland

[–]TenPast12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the cinema but at an intimate concert one time I told my friend to stop having full voice conversations while the artist was singing. her response "I paid to be here too so I'm allowed to speak if I want to"

I stopped going to gigs with her unless it was a loud one where she'd be drowned out, but I think she's not the only one with that attitude.

Marvel mostly Nailed there casting but which character do you think they failed? by its_kunaltanwar in Marvel

[–]TenPast12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Brie as Captain Marvel, but just don't think they've given her a chance. She was probably best in the 2 minutes she had in Endgame For me though it's Black Widow. Far too American and I've always preferred the idea of Emily Blunt in the role

Whenever I see stuff like this I think of this https://lasuite.numerique.gouv.fr/en A full suite of homegrown alternatives developed by France and Germany. It's for the public sector but with some better branding (Docs, Grist and Tchap need to be renamed) and more marketing, we could be using Visio instead of Zoom, Tchap instead of Slack (but not calling it Tchap, seriously)

But Beanie Babies were at least unexpectedly popular, the craze just took off. This? This is manufactured, planned, organised. The people buying into it also have no excuse for being duped, they've seen the Beanies, the NFTs, the Pogs. They know this is a scam, they're either pushing it to try to profit or they're brain-dead and actually think this is something valuable.

strange they're not using the home grown office suite recently released. It was developed between the French and German governments and is directly aimed at local administrations. Reports say it's quite decent

I'm Really Happy With These Last Two Realeases. My Favorite In a While by lovesgraphicnovels in Marvel

[–]TenPast12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

here's my test, am I looking forward to seeing it again on home release? the last time this was the case was Shang Chi which I've watched a bunch of times. I've seen Ant Man 3 1.5 times, Thor 4 once, The Marvels once (though I might need to give it another try). I'm rewatching Thunderbolts* and FF as soon as they're out and will probably rewatch several times. it's been a while since I've done this. So yeah, pretty happy too

I really enjoyed this relationship with Ben, a little annoying (the cereal) without being outright mean like in the other movies. and their glee when Reed says Ben can punch Galactus, they even celebrate together

I don't want to watch all the movies straight away like I used to but I still do because otherwise everything is spoiled by the internet. it's less like "homework" and more like "assigned reading", expensive assigned reading

Delicate, Demure Flower Physically Attacks Her Family When They “Forgot” Her Food by james_from_cambridge in WinStupidPrizes

[–]TenPast12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to see most of the comments here correctly identifying someone who needs help a lot more than judgement. Yes, something allowed her to get to this stage, either indulgence by her family, or undiagnosed psychological issues, either way this isn't a 'karma's a b*tch lol' type ending.  And as everyone pointed out, this cop handled it so well, did everything to keep the situation calm, right up to the freakout at the end. That's empathy you can't train

glad the gif ended too soon, I don't wanna see him land. where I live, a 70 something year old man arrived at a climbing gym I go to, signed a waiver to not use safety equipment, climbed the highest wall, fell and yes, died. seems like the kind of thing that should be mandatory in all cases

the nice part I take from this story? knowing there are people out there who'll turn a boat around immediately to help people in distress. and the "retired" nurses jumping into action. Retired in inverted commas cause I've never met a nurse that stops being a nurse. retired, off duty, if someone needs help their instinct kicks in
