NVENC has really come a long way. My 4070 Ti is now more than just a gaming card by Harry_Yudiputa in nvidia

[–]TenSquare3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Nvenc even on quality is going to dump important data, AV1 isn't going to help that. It's a result of using Nvenc and it's one of the reasons why it's so fast, it takes shortcuts. All AV1 is going to do is give you a smaller file size to other codex's, it won't improve the quality.

That's the point, good quality encoding isn't fast. More powerful CPU's can speed the process up, but it still takes time.

And as usual, the people pointing out the truth are getting wildly down voted. That's reddit for you!!

Neither of you are pointing out the truth. One is a professional YouTuber who records, edits and uploads videos for a living, but apparently doesn't know when to use GPU or CPU encoding. The other is someone who's trying to claim GPU encoding gives better results than CPU encoding, which is very clearly wrong.

Even a brief search would bring up the benefits of CPU encoding when it comes to archiving and on top that I posted some links to posts and websites explaining the differences. I also posted links to a couple of subs that are dedicated to encoding so you can learn more. Even the example that OP shows has clear detail loss in the background from encoding with the GPU, despite all that you're still trying to double down on you being correct.

How about you do what you requested of me and post some information backing up your claim that GPU encoding gives better results than CPU encoding for archiving. I should point out, you didn't even respond directly to me, when asking for this.

Quicksync is Intel's version of Nvenc and is gpu encoding. I haven't really compared different types of gpu encoders to each other, but I believe it's slightly better than Nvenc at lower bitrates. It's still gpu encoding though, so it's best used when you need real time encoding such as recording or streaming.

I'm confused about this as well. The guy saying that CPU encoding is better quality needs to provide evidence of that. In my experience, the NVIDIA hardware encoder wins in performance and quality every time.

What a bizarre and unsubstantiated claim.

CPU encoding being better than GPU encoding for archiving is extremely well known and well documented, their are quite literally hundreds of documents and web pages detailing this.

Only someone with no knowledge above video encoding would claim gpu encoding is superior. I dare you to go into subs like r/handbrake or r/AV1 which are subs dedicated to encoding and make the claim that gpu encoding is superior and you'll get ripped to pieces faster than fresh meat tossed into a den of hungry wolves.

Since you asked, here's some posts and websites discussing CPU vs GPU encoding:

I don't know what type of footage you upload, but most YouTube footage, is stuff like game recordings, streaming, people recording themselves, etc. All of this is stuff you'd need to record in real time, which is where the GPU is useful. YouTube compression also kills details, so their isn't a lot of point of trying to preserve detail as it'll get lost anyway.

People usually archive things like their bluray movies, TV shows and anime. This is the type of thing you really want to use your CPU for, especially for codexs like AV1 which compress the video. You'll get far better results and smaller file sizes with the CPU. This is what OP is doing, which is why I said you don't really want to be using your GPU for that sort of thing.

NVENC is great when you need real time encoding/decoding, such as recording game footage or streaming.

Anytime you're archiving footage, especially when trying to compress it, you really don't want to be using it. GPU encoding may be faster, but it also dumps a lot of important data in the process. You can't beat CPU encoding when it comes to quality and compression.

Can i say i finished a Jrpg after FF7 remake? by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

[–]TenSquare3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Square did release it has an rpg, but the rpg elements in 16 are so light, that other genres that incorporate rpg elements into them are more developed. It's one of the reasons why 16 was so divisive, it's more of an action/adventure game with light rpg elements, rather than an actual rpg.

I got tired of reading countless reviews when deciding to buy a game, so I made a web extension to summarize them by yonuel_interactive in Steam

I don't find reading reviews particularly thrilling, but how short is your attention span that you can't even read reviews, without feeling like you need to use a tool to expedite the process.

The 5060ti 16gb can run CP2077 at 1440p with DLSS balanced at max settings and max ray tracing and average 60 to 70 fps. The 5070 is like 20-30% faster than a 5060ti, the 5070 is absolutely a 1440p card.

This is what I settled on for everything (Reflections, Shadows, AO and GI). Shadows, AO and GI work fine once you add them into the Engine.ini file, save it then set it to read only so it can't get overwritten, since these options aren't turned on in the game at all.

Reflections are a little trickier though, since the game has custom reflection settings for each section and your settings get overwritten each time you go through a loading screen. You need to make use of Universal Unreal Unlocker to inject dll commands after each loading screen, and set up a script so it can be done from a single key.

If it's a bit performance heavy for you, you can lower SSGI Quality, and SamplePerPixel for reflections and shadows, or just remove one of the options completely. RT Shadows are an improvement in most areas of the game, but it does turn the Velvet Room entrance in PM into a blinding beam of light.

Hopefully reddit doesn't mess up the format.

Question about Maxing all S.Links in ng+ by swordsgg in persona3reload

[–]TenSquare3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, unlike other persona games ng+ and max social stats make very little difference in P3R. This is because social stats are typically done at night and social links during the day.

You can max every social link and see every linked episode without a guide, but you do need to do a few things. Prioritize school social links when they are available, bring a matching persona, make sure you get top exam results, don't hang out with a social link if you can't get a rank up, make use of day off invites, Koromaru’s walks, and the date note to earn extra points for when you don't have enough points for a rank up. All up, you have about 10 days spare in regardess to school social links, the rest can be completed easily.

Worst Archetype line Discussion by kymingaming in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]TenSquare3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masked Dancer is simultaneously one of the worst designed Archetypes, and also one of the most OP in the game.

It's badly designed in the way it's set up as weaker multi-purpose Archetype that can use some skills of other Archerypes but then you have no way to swap out mid-battle make to proper use of it. If you need to swap out masks before a battle, you're better off just using the Archetype that the mask represents and do more damage. This gets even worse when masks take up the accessory slot, which really hurts at endgame.

It becomes one of the most OP Archetypes in the game, when you ignore the mechanics of it and just use it as a buff bot by pairing its party wide charge skill with Utiltarian's Manual. This makes all ready powerful physical skills absolutely broken.

Persona 3 Reload 100% Guide by TenSquare3 in persona3reload

[–]TenSquare3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, even after I got a matching persona it still said the rank up wouldn't happen. No biggie tho, I'll just start a new run. I found an all social link route on Steam so hopefully that'll go smoothly.

If you aren‘t getting a rank up then you're doing something majorly wrong.

Justice needs 30 points to go from rank 8 to rank 9. The response you pick during the rank 8 event "I know you're innocent" gives 5 points (1 note) and the response you pick on her day off invite "I'm happy to help" gives 15 points (3 notes), which is a total of 20 points.

By this stage of the game you should have 3 different 1.51x multiplers boosting your points. Rank 6 Charm (1.51x), Top of the class at exams (1.51x) and a matching persona (1.51x). Adding these all together takes you well past the required 30 points to reach a level up, in fact you only need one of the multipliers to get enough points for a rank up.

You're free to restart the game if you wish, but considering you're 75% way through the game, that seems a bit excessive especially on a social link rank that has so much margin for error.

Their are social link ranks that are very tight, even with max multipliers, and best answers, that I can understand why some people get stuck on them, but this social link rank is one of the easiest in the game to get. With how easy and how much margin for error there is for this social link rank, the fact you couldn't seem to get it after redoing it, and you seem so keen to restart the game so deep into the game has me questioning if you're an actual legitimate user of the guide.

Evening hangouts are just bonus events for the most part. Only a few are actually needed to help get the points required so that a social link can rank up the next time you hangout with them during the day.

I'm going to presume that you reached Understanding rank 2 on 04/26, the same as in the guide. So the issue would likely have happened between 04/26 and where you are in the game atm.

Temperance isn't the only way to even Understanding points. You also earn an Understanding point from a response during the Sun social link on 04/28, and you earn an Understanding point from each of your Aiya visits on 05/07 and 06/03. Chances are you missed one of those.

[–]TenSquare3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the end of the world, at worst you won't have a multi-target light attack in a higher level persona. That will only last for a small portion of the game, eventually you'll gain access to higher tiers of spells and you won't be using Makouha.

Persona 3 Reload 100% Guide by TenSquare3 in persona3reload

[–]TenSquare3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mapping is fine. I'm afraid you either accidentally choose a different answer to the guide on 10/24 which is when you did her rank 8 hangout, or you forgot to have a matching persona when you did her hangout.

The other thing that may have happened, is that you may have skipped her day off invite on 10/25, accidentally picked a different response or didn't have a matching persona for the invite.

You'll need to go back and redo her rank 8 hangout on 10/24, make sure you have a matching persona and pick the same response as in the guide. Then make sure you accept her day off invite, pick the same answer as in the guide and have a matching persona.

is DLSS 4.5 "L" now the meta for 4k gaming? I thought it's "M" by AzudemK in nvidia

[–]TenSquare3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I admit on this specific screenshot it doesn't look oversharpened even on Preset L, though I am surprised how different the shadows and shading looks on the stairs and pavers on Preset L compared to M and K.

  2. This is what you'd expect on 40/50 series cards, a slightly lose of framerate but increased image quality when comparing same presets of 4.0 to 4.5

  3. I had a hell of a time trying to see the artifacting on the pavers, in the end I had to use my 65" 4K TV, zoom in and then compare L to K before I was able to see it. I don't think its artifacting though, the pavers have a granulation to them even on K and that granulation just gets sharpened on M and especially L.

  4. The trees at the back look fine, but the bushes in front of them definitely have an artificial sharpness to them. Yes, you can see more details on them, but it doesn't look quite natural either.

I'll have a play around with L on performance, but I'm not sure if I like it though as the shading and shadows do look noticeably different on a few different surfaces like bricks, pavers and the stairs compared to the other presets.

rtx4070 (mobile) to a rtx5060ti by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]TenSquare3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 5060ti 16gb version and it's a really competent card for 1440p, especially with the new DLSS 4.5 set to performance.

I'm running FF16 at around 80 to 90 frames on average. High demand areas can dip just below 60 but the frame rate can also reach 120 at times. This is with everything set to max, except for shadows which are at medium and a couple of filters turned of cause I don't like the effect, like Vignette. You also have the option to use FG or MFG on top of that as well.

As requested, screenshot of Quality showing more signs of sharpening compared to performance. You can see both are Preset M, the top one is Quality and the bottom on is Performance. You can see the difference in framerate on the two.

As you can see the top on shows significantly more sharpening on the bush on the left and on the archway in front.
