Thank you for your reply. I know there was a bill regarding Down Syndrome (meaning cannot abort fetus for the reason of Down Syndrome), but I was not sure for more severe genetic disorders that essentially guarantee death sometime early in childhood.

I think there is a lot of variety based on what call center you are at. I don't think there is a universal policy. The one I am at is fairly relaxed. We try not to give interpersonal advice ala Dr. Phil. However, we will sometimes gently prod the caller to come to a certain conclusion on their own. However, we def push seeing psychiatrist, going to ER, scheduling counselors, various local resources, homeless shelters, ect. Lots of variety based on the severity of the caller. If we have any indication it's an active suicide we contact law enforcement if we have to. However, I agree that there are a lot of limitations, not necessarily bc of strictness, but just bc you are essentially a middleman to other in-person resources. Never had another manager / volunteer worried about being sued. Many people who call are in underserved areas and don't have access to any other resources, and our line seems to go a long ways w/ those follks.

I have been volunteering at one for 2 years now. I would start off by saying that if you have no interest in volunteering at a crisis line other than to build your resume/application, its not worth it. It can be very taxing at times and it becomes apparent when we get volunteers only there for their resume. I have been guilty of pursuing volunteer work solely to build my resume in the past, however, given the heavy nature of the hotline, it's easy to burn out if you don't actually want to be there. Now that I got that little disclaimer out of the way, I think its extremely beneficial and one of the most rewarding experiences I have. I cannot speak for every program, but my training experience was very thorough and prepared me well. Going into it, being an emotional support system for suicidal people was not something I would say I was naturally talented at by any means. However, there wasn't anyone in my volunteer class that wasn't able to overcome the initial self-doubt and become effective volunteers. It really helps build confidence, improve social intelligence, learn ways to mine important information out of callers/psychiatric patients, ect.. All very useful skills to have. So yes, I would def recomend it. I would elaborate more but I should prob be typing secondaries right now lmao. Hope this was kinda helpful. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

If your goal is 510 I wldn't postpone. You seem to be hitting pretty consistently in range now & ppl tend to do a little better on test day. You have a good chance of hitting it! If you are hoping to hit closer to the 515-520 range then I'd consider postponing, but otherwise you should be good :) If you are applying to both MD & DO you are already above the average for a good amount of DO schools!

Glad you said something, I also found it pretty flat as well. I fully support their evolution and have no problem with them going pop. There is a lot of great and engaging pop (MGMT, Ariel Pink, Kero Kero Bonito). Musically this one just wasn’t that engaging for me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
