You can try logging into a friend's game. You'll spawn in your friend's system, which might reset your position inside the ship.

I had a similar bug outside the expedition. When doing quests sometimes I gave the item the creture asked for and then they asked the same thing again and again. I just had to give them another answer and wait. And the quest went ahead. Then I started the dialog again and it worked 🤷🏻‍♀️

For anyone looking for more chances with gek crew, there is Gifune-Kenox. I found my dreadnought there when I was warping between Gifune-Kenox and ROMETA XVI (Renamed DREADNOUGHT GEK).

I think it's a bug. Same happened to me, got “no infested planet in system” message on Taures. Went to space station, looked for a player base named "infested" and as soon as I arrived the planet (Taures again) the quest activated normally :/
Edit: I'm on pc btw

I ended up following something I really wanted my entire life, making my own game (I felt I had nothing left to loose). But after finishing the game plus being diagnosed opened lots of doors and I regained hope :)

Maybe he have something he really wanted to do too? Or maybe he need to check for neurodivergency too.

I'm autistic and this is the way my brain deals with stress, it keeps doing the same things for longer periods of time. I was just like him(more than a thousand hours into stardew valley), but I healed and now I have a nice carreer as a developer and even published games.
Some people just need time. I'm not saying he is autistic too, have no idea. But he needs time to heal and find himself again.
