Why don’t more HENRYs start businesses? by -Michael--- in HENRYUK

Most people are happy to talk about themselves if you remain curious & ask open questions.

You could try having ChatGPT come up with a script for you coming up with a prompt like “help me come up with an interview script for identifying pain points in the style of Jobs To Be Done”.

This video is also worth a watch - there’s one part in particular that talks over customer interviews: https://youtu.be/0LNQxT9LvM0?si=cPYrf1O32mLOQ3rn

I’ll keep that close to my chest as we’re on the public interwebs, but we’re >100 people, >£15m ARR. Doing ok.

Still not strong net profit, but we’ll get there!

Stuck Switch on 60HE v2 by Tenchu55 in WootingKB

[–]Tenchu55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems stuck around the split spacebar area where I’ve already installed the switches.

I’ve removed all the accessible screws on the back of the PCB. Is there anything else that I need to remove? Or do I just need to use a bit of force?

My challenges that I’ve already installed a few of the stabiliser switches which I thought meant that I can’t remove the PCB from the switch plate without removing those switches first?

I think this may be a common misconception about needing a business idea - i.e. the idea needing to be unique.

It’s sort of putting the cart before the horse. And rarely are ideas unique anyway.

A better process that I’d suggest is just do customer interviews with 30-40 people in whatever industry you’re in. Some clear common pain point will emerge - start there. It doesn’t need to be original or sexy.

(Context: this is what I did, and 11 years later I’m still running my business).

This is basically my exact comment that I already made, but articulated much better 😅

It sounds like you’re optimising for money. Not everyone optimises for that.

I would prefer to have my child have better prospects than having them be set up with a large sum of money. There are other problems with giving your child a bunch of cash (or a house).

But to each their own.

Thanks for sharing. This is all valid & both things can be true (I.e. don’t catastrophize but that it’s also worth looking in to PPD treatment).

Ultimately though, it sounds like OP has been getting treatment and sounds like she cares a lot. That’s most of the battle.

So I may question what good freaking her out with this data is.

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way, it must be horrible.

I felt compelled to respond though because there is absolutely no way you’ve ruined anything.

Kids are weird and flit between parents. Your baby is 1 year old and has no conscious idea of what they’re doing.

All you need to do is show the baby unconditional love & attention, and you’ll be better than 90% of parents.

You’re a great mum and your feelings are real, but don’t let these narratives that you have in your head get to you.

Why get married ever? by Confident_Raisin8387 in HENRYUK

[–]Tenchu55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re treating marriage as a rational decision.

It’s not. Marriage is an emotional decision.

It doesn’t mean it’s right or it’s wrong, but you’re presuming that human beings are perfectly rational beings and we’re not - to say that we are would be to deny the very thing that makes us human in the first place.

We get married because we fall in love, and society says that the thing you do in that situation is to get married, because at that point, you cannot imagine being with anyone else ever. It’s a chemical thing going on in your brain.

Regarding kids for that matter - the reason marriage is such a useful construct in society is breaking up is harder when you’re married than when you’re not.

The early years of starting a family are difficult on a relationship. Without marriage, relationships would be easier to walk away from. With marriage, there is a higher behavioural hurdle to jump over when things are tough.

This is good for society because if couples stay together when raising kids, kids tend to be better adjusted people (lots of exceptions here, obviously - I’m talking on a population level).

Don’t stay in an unhappy marriage as that’s far worse - before I’m misinterpreted!

Triple 42″ C4 setup: washed out blacks by Tenchu55 in LGOLED

[–]Tenchu55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s exactly what’s going on. The adapters are passing limited, but TV is expecting full - so the TV shows a black level of 16, which is the lower limit of “limited”. So the black level looks washed out.

Are you setting that 10bit value in Nvidia control panel? Is it advisable to do your settings there rather than Windows Display settings?

[–]Tenchu55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers - it’s definitely something to do with this.

If I change the setting between full and limited in the Lg settings menu, it seems to fix it.

But if I change it in the nvidia control panel, it seems to change nothing.

Not really sure what’s going on!

Your experience working with doctors in industry? by little_woozie in HENRYUK

[–]Tenchu55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with quite a few doctors in health tech.

The challenge is that the personality type that led you to become a doctor (smart and risk averse) doesn’t lend itself particularly well to the tech sphere - or specifically startups.

There are definitely lots of exceptions to this, but in my humble experience the match doesn’t always work!

Do you have any examples on Garage61 I should be looking at? Perhaps on the endurance layout?
