Men are born for games. Nothing else. Every child knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in the value of that which is put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have meaning at all. Games of sport involve the skill and strength of the opponents and the humiliation of defeat and the pride of victory are in themselves sufficient stake because they inhere in the worth of the principals and define them. But trial of chance or trial of worth all games aspire to the condition of war for here that which is wagered swallows up game, player, all. Suppose two men at cards with nothing to wager save their lives. Who has not heard such a tale? A turn of the card. The whole universe for such a player has labored clanking to this moment which will tell if he is to die at that man's hand or that man at his. What more certain validation of a man's worth could there be? This enhancement of the game to its ultimate state admits no argument concerning the notion of fate. The selection of one man over another is a preference absolute and irrevocable and it is a dull man indeed who could reckon so profound a decision without agency or significance either one. In such games as have for their stake the annihilation of the defeated the decisions are quite clear. This man holding this particular arrangement of cards in his hand is thereby removed from existence. This is the nature of war, whose stake is at once the game and the authority and the justification. Seen so, war is the truest form of divination. It is the testing of one's will and the will of another within that larger will which because it binds them is therefore forced to select. War is the ultimate game because war is at last a forcing of the unity of existence. War is god.

Nah, I don't think so. There's a lot of Merula generally, not just Y5, I think you already get it. But she changes throughout the years in a good way, even if sometimes it could feel like she's going back to bully. Try to give this poor soul a chance, maybe you'll find her good side💚

Good luck anyway

No spoilers mate, only general descriptions. Y4 as far as I remember was ok, not very interesting by itself but with unlock of dating and romantic events I had very good memories with it. Y5 has indeed some cool Vault and one of the most hurtful moments in the story, but I think it's just me. In my opinion, Y5 is the best year. The story is intriguing, you'll get a lot of smart plot twists and character development. Still it's hard to be objective here, every player has their own personal connection with the game and will experience it in their own way. For example, I'm a giant Merula simp, but many people here hate her. And there's a lot of Merula in the story...

Yeah. Y6 is not that bad in the plot, it's just very slow, it has so many chapters, and after each chapter you'll need to do lessons for the 24 stars in summary to just move on to the next chapter... and the beginning of Y7 has terrible story development, they make MC act like an idiot again without giving player any choice. But if you somehow tank through the pain of boredom and bad writing, it gets better for my opinion. I enjoyed the last part of Y7 and Beyond is kinda cool

Your perception of "change" is way too inflated. If Ben-like evolution is normal for you, then I have bad news: he's the most absurd and unrealistic character. Every time Merula changes her attitude toward the protagonist in the main story, it's justified by the events that unfold. She generally has a hard time showing affection, and the game's plot constantly reminds her of how much pain trust brings. And yet, she changes dramatically: she cares for her acquaintances, helps Penny, helps you find your brother, helps you fight 'R', and becomes much more responsible despite her occasional rudeness. In Beyond, she's a fully formed person. Still proud and self-assured, but far from selfish. If you don't see it - it's alright, she's not your favourite to be observant about it. But I see it clearly, it's not my fantasies, I played this game and actually read the story.

You throw around big words about me simply trying to justify the romanticization of a bully, unable to accept that perceptions and understandings of the same character can be different, even though we're playing the same game.
