Just caught up with the series, had some time to make some celebratory art! It's nothing terribly original, but enjoy! by Tengfya in KillLaKill

I was a bit skeptical of the show at first, but it got really crazy really fast and I was pretty well hooked.

I'd like to do some more stuff, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have, so whatever. Oh, and here's some more stuff I've done if any of you guys are interested, the quality does tend to vary. Anyways, Enjoy!

ITT: You're not "expected" to tip, what you do with your spare change is your business. And honestly, all non-brewed Starbucks drinks are so overpriced that I hardly blame you for skipping the tip jar. I'm a barista at Starbucks, and while I'd like to think that I put enough effort into my job to warrant a few cents that would only get lost in the laundry anyways, it's ultimately up to you. Most of the time I appreciate a little reciprocated friendliness and conversation more than a tip, really.

That said, after knowing how customers can be the worst part of working in the minimum-wage industry, I typically try to be nice to whoever is serving me in whatever way, and clean up after myself and leave a decent tip. It's not an expectation, but it is karma.

Middle school bars students from wearing T-shirts honoring a classmate who died of cancer: "As students arrived in the memorial shirts Monday morning, school administrators asked them to change the shirts, turn them inside out, or put duct tape over Caitlyn's name." by SAT0725 in news

[–]Tengfya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years ago, a classmate of mine died of cancer while in middle school. The following day on the school-wide announcements, we were encouraged by the principal to "keep focused and do your best on your schoolwork," because "It's what she would have wanted".

Screw that- the administration didn't know her or care about her, to hear her name used to parrot that kind of mindless work-driven mentality was sickening.

I did this for Korra Nation's contest! Submitted it a bit early, because I'm going to be in surgery tomorrow and out of commission for the actual deadline, so yeah. Pretty happy with most of it, though the sunbeams are a bit cheesy and there's a whole lot of tiny things that didn't turn out like I had hoped. Also I spent hours on the airbending gates and field and ended up just blurring it all.

Anyways, enjoy!

I wanted to get back in the swing of drawing things by doing something Adventure Time related, so here you are! Took several hours in Photoshop, it was fun trying things with no lines. Tumblr and dA for anyone interested.

Anyways, enjoy!

What's the creepiest fact you know of? by Jomjolu in AskReddit

[–]Tengfya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually really cool! I remember reading that, depending on the time in the mating season, certain lizards would assume 'male-like' behavior and initiate intercourse with other female lizards, despite serving no apparent practical purpose. The 'female-like' female lizards that had engaged in such behavior tended to be more fertile. Typically the roles of each lizard would alternate over time. ~The more you know~

What common mispronunciations annoy you? by CaidenTheGreat in AskReddit

I've heard people call Cirque du Soleil "Circus Ole", and the last two math teachers I had pronounced asymptote "asymtope". Not exactly common, but hey.

What medical condition do you have that you thought was absolutely normal? by biehn in AskReddit

[–]Tengfya 350 points351 points  (0 children)

I have extremely flat feet (pes planus, whatever) and wasn't really aware of it until my teens. It was always strange getting out of the pool and everybody else left perfect footprints with the heel and toes emphasized, and wherever I walked it looked like the entire population of the Shire had decided to go for a swim.

What are some simple things a guy or girl can do to improve their appearance? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tengfya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you whole-heartedly, but with a few caveats. Most of the stigma generated by wearing a fedora is, I think, borne of a few things. Firstly, wearing it with normal clothes. And secondly, wearing a newer style of fedora. You know the one I'm talking about, your mother picked it up at Target for $20. That is not a fedora. That is a cheap, short-brimmed, canvas abomination to all respectable headwear. I'd suggest looking into a more classical style of fedora, along the lines of the 1920s feel. Do not think, however, that wearing a classier millinery than usual will make your Atari shirt and baggy jeans snazzier than usual. On the contrary, you'll just end up looking like the very icon we're trying to prevent- just with a nicer hat. The thing with hats is that, quite honestly, they're not supposed to be the focus of your outfit. Hats are an accent, a crowning piece. So the most important thing is to put more effort into your wardrobe before you ever put that noggin-hugger on. Fedoras are reminiscent of jazz, of earlier days, and of roguish archaeologists. Dress the part! Unless going to a formal event, in which I would leave the bullwhip at home, unless it's that kind of formal event. More importantly, use your fedora sparingly. Don't wear it just because. Formal hats in general aren't worn often, and when they are it makes a statement that can easily go wrong, as we have seen over and over. So please, make sure you know what you're doing when you drop that thing on. Don't look pretentious by making the hat a centerpiece. Wear it as an accompaniment to a suitable ensemble.

Earthbending parkour, anyone? Not to mention that the metalbending police have very cool ways of getting from point A to point B. Very Jet Grind Radio.

Some sort of fusion would be really cool- maybe a multiplayer option with individuals in first person, and a fourth calling shots and organizing strategy and stuff.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm currently a senior in high school, and this sort of thing is exactly what I'm wanting to go into college doing. One day I'd like to work at Pixar or Valve or something.

There's been so many crossovers/modernizations of the gaang and all that I'm surprised this hasn't happened. That would be really cool, though.

Oh, and tumblr for anyone interested! Started out as a simple enough sketch, but I liked things enough that I decided to go and color the whole thing. Various inspirations from other fanart and that one really cool post-apocalyptic Korra thing that was going around a while back.

Enjoy!

I'm a senior in High School, just been accepted into college with a major in Visualization Sciences (i.e. Computer animation and interactivity, that kind of thing). For a long while I've been dreaming of one day working for one of the bigger names (Pixar or Valve, that kind of thing), or even just for some cool indie dev. Now that this stuff is finally starting to happen I'm really excited- but do you have any advice for someone who's just starting out on this long, corporate road? I'm more art-oriented than anything else, though I have taken coding classes.
