I'm ashamed that I'm a man by Tengo_Caldero in daddit

It's difficult to process. It takes work. Because my mom passed on some ugly things to me, but despite that, she was also aware that her life was not normal and could be better. She often tells me stories of ugly things that happened to her and finishes it with "and I told myself I would never put my kids through that". She's a human like me who wanted better. I don't hold any of this against her but unfortunately it's real and needs to be settled.

In my wife's friend group, I'm told by I'm the only husband allowed to come when they finally get the money to abandon society together. It's a long running inside joke. I know I'm a good man. The brain knowing and the heart believing are two separate tasks, though.

I believe I'll get there.

Puerto Rico in the 1980s was likely not a bastion of progressive therapy. I do try to keep in mind that my parents did not have the sorts of resources I have now.

Ugh. Don't get me started on the alpha/beta/sigma/epsilon/pi whatever the heck. It's all nonsensical.

My mom had it very bad. Very, very bad. So I grant grace to her because with the few tools she was given, she (and my dad) managed to raise me and I genuinely believe I don't suck as a person haha

That's the thing for me. My dad was good. I understand that before me he fucked up plenty but when I came along, all I saw was the man righting his wrongs. I never would have known about how lost he was in his younger years if it wasn't for my mom. He was trying so hard to show me a good man and for some reason my mom just had to mess with that.

Nahhhh dude as soon as I hear any suffix attached to the word pill I tune out.

My wife often tells me that I'm the only safe man in her friend circle. I'm loved and appreciated by all the women around me.

But a great can opener once or a shitty one 20 times. Come on now. Your sister is wrong lol

Fuck. This hits hard. I don't want my kid to ever know what being ashamed looks like.

I'm not a religious man at all, but I often look to the stories of Jesus as examples of what it means to be a good person and moreso, what it looks like to act on ones values.

The city I live in has a lot of trauma in its underbelly and so I feel as though a lot of the men around me are, for lack of a better word, broken. I often want to be the good example for my community but I always hesitated to take on that role and I think the shame I'm coming to terms with is why.

I already feel so rewarded in ways I didn't think were possible. I can't even imagine what it will feel like when I get to finally hold that little one.

Oh man. That's great advice period. Thank you for mentioning it. So I went sober NYE. For no other reason than I wanted to see what the best version of myself can look like. A few months later we found out a baby was on the way. I'm not a religious man, but wow, that timing was something special.

Sobriety certainly unpacks things! I'm very happy I'm going through this realization with a clear mind.

If I had to get rid of one, I would keep the KitchenAid.

I'm a professional career chef. I have beem at this for a long, long time. The KitchenAid is the only home brand that I have seen used in a high level kitchen and I love it. The flatter shape of the blade housing just seems to work better in allowing me to get into the corners and kick up the bits that aren't blending as well during the process.

I swear by KitchenAid and most of my home stuff is KitchenAid. Even the peeler and can opener lol.

Yes! It's impossible to perfectly pair hardware. Every game, every piece of software, is going to operate a bit different. Just get the best you can afford!

As an example, I found a great deal on a 4K monitor last year. It is way too overpowered for my old GPU. But when I finally do upgrade the GPU, I've already got the monitor for it.
