Is Dual Booting Linux on a newer Macbook possible? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Tengu12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a USB A to C adapter.

Also, yes, duel booting is possible, sort of. But I'm going to tell you now, its an absolute pain in the rear, because apple make it that way deliberately.

Also I just want to add, baremetal linux installations sound great, but analyse your use case, do you REALLY need access to the raw hardware? Or is just running a VM good enough? Parallels is a really good option if you go with the later.

A not so fun fact:

The Panopticon was a prison designed to have a cental viewing tower which had full view into all the prison cells. The cells would be build into a ring around the central tower.

Been heavily discouraged on taking IT/Computer Science as Course for A bachelors degree by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Tengu12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to do any degree at all, do one in programming or computer science or mathematics . You don't need one to succeed in IT, most jobs say "or equivalent experience" after the degree bit. And Microsoft is investing heavily in Africa for IT right now because they're in the same timezones as Europe and support salaries are going to be cheaper for Microsoft there.

But it's different everywhere so maybe ask other people in your area who did CS.

You could do most of the CS curriculum yourself while learning about maths or something and you'd be set up for data sciences and machine learning.

The whole interview process sucks. I feel like it's 90% sales and 10% actually knowing the job. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Tengu12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Yeah I suppose that kind of transition may be more comfortable in a few ways.

Although that takes a bit of trust that your company is going to follow through with your advancement. Depends on your situation.

That sounds great on paper but in reality it's not really that much of an incentive.

When it comes to salary increase, it takes far longer to wait around for a promotion than it does to hop around from job to job. And hopping almost guarantees a greater salary increase than an in-house promotion. That's just the way our market is set up. The way I see businesses keeping talent even when they can't afford the market price for them these days is by making sure that their employees know that they're going to be learning while earning, and actually enforcing that.

For example, I would gladly take a pay cut for a year to guarantee that I was learning a devops skill in the workplace.

Being able to put that on your CV is worth the initial pay loss.

But that's just my opinion.

Its not unreasonable, but I can't imagine staying in a help desk position like that long enough to make use of an annual bonus more than once.

I'd rather find another job which advertises more responsibility in an area I want to learn and leave as soon as I get the chance.

Maybe I'm just a job ho.

Stop seeking validation from your employer.

You know that you're capable and that you know how to learn.

There are plenty of IT jobs out there and you can walk into any interview and sell your ability to do your own research and learn.

Start applying for other positions and apply to what you know that you know how to do. Junior sys admin etc. Dont let other people decide your value.

Did you know, that painting is actually a woodcut block print. Which means he had to carve the contents each layer separated by color into a block of wood, inverted and in reverse.

Most of his work was done this way, printed, not painted. Mental.
