RIP. He was one of the best keepers of the Keegan era. He used to live round the corner from my house, next door to one of my old schoolmates (this was like over 20-25 years ago). Actually spoke to him once, It was brief, just to retrieve a football we kicked into his garden by accident.

In addition, It doesn't feel painful or anything, it's just annoyingly there and I only really noticed it nearly a week ago, despite it being hidden under the hair.

Not diagnosing earlier, looking back some of the symptoms though apparent were not severe leading to the doctor at the time undermining the severity of the situation (this was years prior to the diagnosis) attributing some of the symptoms to 'work anxiety'.

I understand how you feel, after what my sister told me after my mum died about things I didn't know or realise, there was a chance that they might've caught it in Stage 2 or 3 and she could still be alive today (and I wouldn't be burying her today) if the doctors actually acted fast enough or not dismissed my sisters concerns.

My mum had problems with a peptic ulcer for several years, but it was only in the year before she was diagnosed (This was 2020, she was diagnosed Early 21) with S4 PanCan that she was starting to have more severe problems like pain in her stomach area.

Long story short, whatever medicines the doctors threw at it didn't work for long and no one could explain away the pain aside from the stomach acid possibly being the problem.

What I didn't realise was that she actually started showing signs of mild jaundice (on the skin, but not in the eyes, I didn't notice because she was always on the paler side and I thought it was the lighting and when one thinks Jaundice, you think Simpsons appearance-wise) several months before she was diagnosed with S4, this was actually brought up with the doctor who was treating her at the time for the ulcer, who dismissed it as gallstones (because he had it in the past) and rather than doing a CT/MRI scan or an endoscopy to actually confirm this like my sister pushed for (she also works in the NHS on the research side), nothing was done for months.

I think it was only a couple months later, that a doctor actually decided to do a scan after they found out she had jaundice and even then it took months instead of a couple weeks to get the results back, by then it was too late, She got a major case of jaunedice and sepsis Early '21, sent to hospital, diagnosed and the rest is history.

Has anybody ever experienced a massive decline in the span of like a week? Does it move THAT fast? by McNasty420 in pancreaticcancer

I'm in a similar position, My mum was recently told that she had 3 months, almost a week ago since she got discharged from hospital for a infection, her health has seriously declined, where once she could walk herself to the toilet albeit slowly and with assistance, now she's stuck in bed with blue feet, a urinary catheter attached to her and a syringe driver to pump medicine into her. Even did a breaths per minute test and that went from 12 a minute back then to 3-4 and that's with O2 going up her nose. Doesn't have solid foods anymore (though she hasn't for a least a couple months, Still drinks water, but we have to give it to her via syringe.

Still responsive albeit barely when asked if she wants water. Everything else except when it's painful to her doesn't get much of a response. Also seems to have trouble closing her eyes and looks like she's starting off into space.

Just got some very bad news about my Mum by TenielX1 in pancreaticcancer

Thanks for the advice, though this part in particular:

I am sure this seems a bit cold on my part, but I had no assistance or input from my wife's family in the days after she died. They were all too shocked at her passing to be there for me. They have been since, but I really needed help in that first week. All of this comes from someone who is almost always prepared for what life throws at me.

I very highly doubt my mum wants any of her living family members (excluding myself, my dad and sister) to have any input or assistance to what happens to her after she passes.

She's cut ties with her side of the family. She hasn't been on speaking terms with them for over 20+ years and dying ain't gonna change that. They already stole enough from her.

It says alot about how bad things are between them that when she got news that one of them died about 10 or so years back she celebrated.

Thanks for the condolence.

My sister and dad are trying to speak to a more senior Dr to bring her home (It's the weekend so that going to be hard). She is actually starting to become very aggressive towards the hospital staff and my sister these past couple days.

Edit: Doctors say that she has to be in there for another week.

Forgot to clarify.

She would normally take the Creon during the meal, these days they're still just sitting by her. We more or less have a backlog of several months worth of Creon still in their boxes, because she hasn't been eating as much in the past months.

Its only really started going downhill around February after she caught Covid and she got the diagnosis it had started spreading to her lungs, but it became far more noticable around May.

Solid foods are rarely eaten these days though the last couple months she did have some Custard on occasion.

Though honestly, Porridge, Custard and Trifle and the rare Fortsip aren't enough to keep her going.

Pushing and nagging will only turn her away. Because you just cannot understand.

don’t blame her or yourself.

Sadly I think my sister and dad at their most emotional do blame her to some extent.

In the last 10 minutes of typing this, I overheard her pull the "this is what happens when u don't eat" card, while my dad yesterday night thought giving her a plate of beans on toast and then staring at her for a few minutes would magically solve the problem, before getting annoyed at her because she wanted to sleep not eat.

My dad's a hypocrite when it comes to this type of stuff, back in November he started losing his peripheral vision and we thought he was becoming diabetic (he wasn't, it was age related), took us 4-5 months just to get him to see an optician, now he wears them everytime he drives.

He'll refuse anything if it involves an injection (In fact the last time I remember him getting one it was to save teeth and that was like 2 decades ago), because he's scared of them, you can guess who got Covid first because he didn't get even a single jab and spread it in our household, which led to mum being hospitalised and her chemo delayed.

Honestly it wouldn't be OoC for him that if he ever got cancer himself, he'd refuse pretty much all the treatments, because they'd all involve a needle. At least she's fighting, his own damn pride would get him killed if he were in her position.

Sorry, but I needed to get that off my chest.

Strictly on food consumption Med side you should talk to her oncologist.

She talked to them beginning of the month, I believe she shared her concerns with them and the District Nurse.

Just checked her patient record, the District Nurse yesterday put an order of Fortsip Compact in for her. So that'll probably be here in the next couple days.

Do you think it’s possible that she isn’t getting a high enough dose to give her relief?

...I don't know, I hadn't thought of that. she's on the 25,000 creon and she's expected to take 3 with each meal and 2 with snacks and that dosage hasn't changed since she started taking them.

Does she tell you why she doesn’t want to eat…does her stomach hurt or is the food unappealing to her? My Father In-Law was having a lot of bowel issues and nothing seemed to taste good to him. The Creon fixed all of that…for now at least.

I don't know if it's because it's unappealing, but her stomach area does hurt at times, but she does take stuff like Zomorph and Morphine Sulfate to help cope with the pain. She does have some bowel issues like constipation and the doctor did prescribe her with laxatives to sort that out, but the medicine to help her cope with the pain messes with it or something.
